Cinematic Study

What movies have really made you think? Is there a skill to watching movies "well" or "carefully"? Can you "get better" at watching movies? (Soon, we'll view some so we can practice the skills that lead to knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.)

  1. Band of brothers really made me think about things that how so many americans died for our freedom. How bad they really had it by it being so cold and dangerous. It made me almost cry that people accually went there and died for our freedom

  2. well American History X really makes you think about how people that are different are treated like they are worthless. In Tupac Ressurection they point out that blacks are treated much different than whites by authorities and the FBI killed him because they thought he was promoting gang violence with his music but he was really just showing how it was in his hood.

  3. Welllllllll......The movie "Shindlers List" just proves to people how bad it actually was. Some people seem to think it wasnt that big of a deal but after watching this movie, they should change their minds.

  7. Forest Gump is the movie that made me think on how one girl can set his life for the rest of his life. He never gives up on loving her and being there for here in the hard time that she strugled with. He becomes the most popular person in the U.S. and could have any other women and not wait anymore. But he waits and his dream comes true but dosent last that long it somthing to look at for your future.

  9. "Half Nelson" is an amazing movie, starring Ryan Gosling (actor from "The Notebook"). It shows how people's minds are extremely complex. It is about a white male teacher who has "issues" and a black female student who also is wrapped up in "difficulty." This young girl has all kinds of factors that work on her. I just love it and recommend it to all of you.

And I do believe there is a skill to watching movies. You have to "catch everything": every bit of humor, every reference to something else, every subtle scene, every transition. You have to pay very close attention to catch all the clever tactics the movie directors use.

I know I am a better movie-watcher than when I was a boy! I can watch more "difficult" movies, ones with tough vocabularies and themes.

  10. Some movie really make you think about whats going on and if you dont keep up then you get lost and dont know whats going on in the end. When that happends the movie was pointsless to watch cause you dont really know what happend or why it happend. Movies like number 23,

  11. I know people can be better/worse at viewing movies. It takes experience and focus to "catch" everything a film director throws at you. Every single word and every single action matters in movies--there are no wasted moments in the very best movies. In Unforgiven , there are no lines that do not have a deeper, more significant meaning. That's why we analyze it as if it were literature. It had your attention, I could tell. (And Jake South taught me something I never realized: it's Ned's gun, the Spencer rifle, that William uses on Little Bill!)

  12. Watch The Number 23 again. You might figure more of it out.

  13. The Number 23 just makes me think about maybe there is a chain of coincidenses that make up life that maybe we will never notice but live out everyday. Maybe that is the over all plan that we have predetermined futures but not by God but by this unnoticed chain of coincidences.
