Frightened was the way he had felt a year ago when an unidentified aircraft had overflown the community twice. He had seen it both times. Squinting toward the sky, he had seen the sleek jet, almost a blur at its hight speed, go past, and a second later heard the blast of sound that fallowed. Then one more time, a moment later, from the opposite direction, the same plane.

The reason why i think this section is good is b/c it sets the tone of the book already. You can think of many diffrent ways the book can go and how much you can add with just one paragraph. This paragraph can go many diffrent way, you can put many diffrent things with it you can mix. Then even before that it says that he was frightened but then he said no. Wrong word, now most people dont say that or think that they said the wrong word. So, then you start thinking that maybe this world is diffrent or maybe not even our world in that mind set. Then a unidentified aircraft, so what does that mean are they at war or is it a allie? The start of this novel is so diffrent then most and i think thats why it grabs so many people when they start reading it. Now jets in our time you can see a jet even at moc one go by you so maybe they are faster jets in this time, or world. If it was unidentified aircraft why did it go over twice and if it did why did they hear a blast of wound and then again. Did it get shot down or what? This is the 1st paragraph in the book and there are so many diffrent ways it can go.

"Jonas has not been assigned," she informed the crowd, and his heart sank. Then she went on "Jonas has been selected." He blinked. What did that mean? He felt a collective, questioning stir from the audience. They, too, were puzzled. In a firm, commanding voice she announced, "Jonas has been selected to be our next Receiver of Memory."

I like this section in the book because before the Chief says he is the Receiver it add suspense and a stomach twisting feeling. At the point in the story you don't want to stop reading you want to find out what happens. When you find out that Jonas is the Receiver so many questions went through my head. Like what is that? What's going to happen? Why do they need a Receiver of Memory? This part in the book is a turning point i think. Everything in the beginning led up to this point.

Ceremony- is when they have their birthdays and they turn their new age and they get to try new thing.
Chief Elder- he the one that make the deaction on what they do for fun and what the kids do for work.
Jonas- he is the new giver and he is getting the menorys from the old giver so that he can give them to the next giver.

The reason I thought this scotion was good is because it very diersioning to read and to take about what had happen in that chapter. I think that if you read and then right what you thought of that chapter. I thing that is ve
ry good is that they get new things very time that they turn a new age. I thought that very thing that is in those chapters is that they are some what like us and how they are doing stuff that we do very day in are life today and what you learn from your parntes and friends. They teach what right from wrong. They do that very day to us and that. What people do in this chapter is that they have to tell the elders what they whant change in the rules that they want to replace with a new rule. They also have to singe up for the a child and then they diesied if they get a new child. They have to wait to name the child they can name the child when they get the child. The people that sign up for a child they wait eather a mounth or a year how now.I think this scecon is so good. This what I have to say about this section.

He killed it! My father killed it! Jonas said to himsolf, stunned at what he was realizing. He continued to stare at the screen numbly. His father tidied the room. Then he picked up a small carton that lay waiting on the floor, set it on the bed, and lifted the limp body into it. He placed the lid on tightly.

The reason I picked this section is because Jonas learns a lot that he didn't know nor expect. It also catches the readers attention, at least mine, I didn't think being released meant to be killed. It also makes Jonas realize what feelings really are because no one else in the community knows what feelings actually feel like. This video of the release really disturbed Jonas too and he doesn't know how to cope with the feelings he's experiencing, and the last thing he wants to do is go home to his family after watching his father perform the release, leading to who knows what, which makes the book more intense and interesting to what happens next. I really like how the author makes this part really unpredictable, it makes you want to keep reading. I think that Jonas is going to end up running away because he doesn't know what else to do, I'm assuming after watching the footage of the release he wants to get out of the community. If Jonas does escape I think he's going to discover the world and experience everything he never knew ,or thought, existed. I also think he will bring Fiona along with him and they will start a real life, in the real world and live happily ever after until Jonas ends up in the old home, while Fiona sponge bathes him.

Once again, as he had on the playing field, he felt the choking sensation. once agian he saw the face ot the light-haired, bloodied soldier as life left his eyes the memory came back. he killed it! my father killed it! jonas said to himself, stunned at what he was realizing.

i chose this exerpt from the giver because it really intreged me to what to no what happens next in the book. jonas just realized what the true meaning of being realized means. it means death to the young and old or who everelse whats to be realized. watching his father kill the little baby really tripped up jonas's emotions because he knows the pain death can cause from his previous memorys of death and from the memory of the dieing soldier. what really shocks jonas is how his father has no remorse of killing the child simply just because his father didnt no anybody and he had no emotion towards doing this in our world hayness crime. my prediction for what comes next is that jonas will recieve memorys that will show him how to start a new society on his one with fiona and start a whole new community with color and everything he now nos from the memorys and jonas will take gabe with him because gabe will somehow get realised and jonas will take him before he gets murdered by his father o and jonas and fiona will make lots and lots of babys while takeing a nice hot steamy sponge bath together.

The Hands came, and the pain came with them and through them. Jonas braced himself and entered the memory which was torturing The Giver. He was in confused, noisy, foul-smelling place. It was daylight, early mouning and the air was thick with smoke that hung, yellow and brown, above the ground.

Even though that that is not the whole section of the very vivid and detailed memory of the civil war that Jonas was seeing. But when you just start shortly get in to the chapter and it has those details in it, you just wanna read more to see what kind of memory the Giver could possibly be enduring that could cause someone that abount of pain. When you read the chapter on the memory of the civil war you can tell that lois lowary put alot of time and efort in to the book and the certain details that it seems like she put herself in to the situation of how someone would act if they were witnessing warfare for the first time. This section I believe is also good because it can also help you amagine what Jonas might begin to exsperience with other memories that he may recieve, and it makes me think that that is the one thing that will push Jonas over the edge and either want to keep things the way they are so peaceful, civil and no hurtful memories or make him tired of living into this world that makes everyday life seem like it is suppose to be so easy and care free when he knows that even though the true world is far from that he wants people to live life the way it is itended for.

His father was talking, and Jonas realized that he was hearing the answer to his question he had started to ask. Still in the special voice, his father was saying, "I know. I know, It hurts little guy. But I have to use a vein, and the veins in our arms are still too teeny-weeny."
He pushed the plunger very slowly, injecting the liquid into the scalp vein until the syringe was empty.

I think this is a good section because this was jonas's first time watching a release and he needed to know what actually happened at one. Also it showed Jonas that everyone in the community are like robots.. they dont know what there doing there just doing what they were ordered to do. They do not know what death is.. they could actually think that they are putting the releasies to sleep for the trip to another community. From this we can tell that he is also feeling emotions more frequently because he gets choked up and then ends up bursting out crying because he also know what if feels to have lose. He is also hurt because his dad is the one euthinizing the baby.. he notices that he is also talking to the baby the same way he talks to Gabe so he might be a little bit nervious Gabriel may end up the same way as the twin. This selection helps me picture everything i can imgine exactly what the room looks like the baby scwerming on the table and Jonas's father inserting the needle into the babies scull and him putting the twin into the metal box and throwing the box down a chute

This section was good because it finally explained to us what being "released" is in this book. I thought that the people had been sent out of the community to go somewhere else the whole time. Not only did the section tell us that the release process meant killing them but it also explained in disturbing detail how the people were released. Its similar to the injection death penalty. Another reason I liked this section is because it finally started to get interesting after all the good happens something very bad happens. This section helps to unfold the truth about this community and what it hides from the normal people. This section also helps you imagine what the Giver and Jonas have to go through. It gives good detail to help you understand the feelings Jonas is getting. This part of the story really gets my imagination going. It made me picture how the baby was being released with details that made me imagine the pain Jonas felt seeing Gabe get released. I cannot personally relate this to my life simply because nothing like this has happened to me in my life time. I can sort of relate this to our world in a sense that the releasing process is similar to the death penalty. In some places in our world people get the death penalty through an injection similar to the one Gabe is given.

"He felt the warmth again, the suhshin again, coming from the sky of this other consciousness that was so new to him. this time, as he lay basking in the wonderful warmth, he flet the passage of time. His skin began to sting. Restlessly he moved one arm, bending it, and felt a sharp pain in the crease of his inner arm at the elbow."

This brings me back to the first time I got the worst sunburn of my life. I was about the age of 14 when i spent the hole summer in florda with my grandmother. I wanted to get a good tan that summer. She has an in ground pool in her back yard. So i felt the need to tan. Well i ended up falling asleep right there in the chare. Mind you my grandma was at work from noon to five. It was not in tell she got home that she wook my up to do her laughing. At thought point is when i started to feel the pain. becouse i moved fare to fast. Do to that fact that she starteld me. I had been laying out there for almost tree hours. I more red then the DQ shirts. From my head to my tosse it was nothing but pain. I could barly grasp a pen. It really help my imagination because it helped me lurn the hard way not to fall asleep out in the florda sun.

Jonas realizes how the elderly and the newborn are released. He is terrified about how they are released. The newborn are given a shot in the forehead and it kills them. He also cant understand why they celebrate it for the elderly. Jonas thinks about Fiona and how she loves the elderly and how she is training to help the elderly. she works at the house of the old. Jonas watches the release of the twin. The way they do it makes him very upset he asks why do they have to kill him. He is so upset he cant even go home. He stays with the giver for the night.

"Gabriel?" Jonas whispered that night to the newchild. The crib was in his room again. After Gabe had slept soundly in Jonas's room for four nights, his parents had pronounced the experiment a seccess and Jonas a hero. Gabriel was growing rapidly, now crawling and giggling across the room and pulling himself up to stand. He could be upgraded in the Nurturing Center, Father said happily, now that he slept; he could be officially named and given to his family in December, which was only two months away.

I believe this part in the book was really good because it showed how much Jonas really cared about Gabriel, and also that his dad did try and help Gabe get into his own family unit. The fact that Gabe got better shows that he was an importance to this novel.
