Type about two claims/observations about The Lion King (involving literary criticism and theoretical approaches and lenses) I've expressed to you, one you agree with and another you disagree with. Find these claims/observations on the prezi, viewing notes, or from what I've said in class.

Type 300+ words.

  1. I agree that the Lion King has symbols and hints at certain things. The one that really stuck out to me is where the tree was the color of the eye which was green. The color of envy and jealousy. The rock formation around it was the eye, and scar was the tear. Because, scar is jealous of Mufasa and Simba because they are kings, and soon to be king. He wants to be in charge and in control of everyone and everything. He wants to rule the land and not have peace with anyone. He wants it his own way, to do or eat anything he wants. Mufasa makes it so they are all a "family" perhaps. The Circle Of Life. It is true, they have a circle of life. They have peace and that's how it should be. As you could see when they had Scar's way it was dark, gloomy, dry. Nothing to eat, no water. He wasn't fit to be king because he doesn't have goodness in his heart like Simba and Mufasa do. But, I do disagree with Mr. C on how the movie is sexist. Yes, we have a king and not a queen. Nala may be a little stronger than Simba when they were younger. Now, it's different. When they are grown up. Simba takes control and knows what he is doing. Nala may not know exactly what to do in certain situations. Technically she could be "queen" when she marries Simba. She has some control but not as much as Simba does. But, in the movie when they are running from the hyena's Simba saved Nala and scratched Banzai on the face so she wouldn't bite or kill Nala. He was strong and brave at the time when he needed too. Nala, wasn't as brave like she is when they are just playing around. The movie is not sexist. It's more realistic. Most guys are stronger than girls and when it comes to making important decisions the guys usually make that decision, better instincts.

  2. All the claims that have been made in class so far, I agree with all of them. The two I agree with the most is scar walking away from the tree and rock which from a bird eyes view it looks like an eye and scar is the tear walking away, which is symbolizing that scar is sad or upset with what he is about to make happen next, or the little lion Simba is sad just a little foreshadowing for what later happens because later Simba is sad because his dad the king is now dead. The other one I agree with is scar when he talks to all the hyenas, they all march just like the German soldiers marched to Hitler, Secondly in that same scene scar was standing on the top of the rock and there was a moon which symbolized the hammer and sickle, which represents communism or in other words rebels. Which scar is a rebel because he is jealous because he was not the king but he is the king to the poor side of the kingdom, he is also a rebel in many other ways, one being he tell the hyenas if they stand with him to help make him king they will never starve and he will make lions and hyenas come together at once. One thing I found funny was that once Scar make his goals come true the hyenas said scar we are hungry and scar says what are the lions supposed to hunt for you, then they say the old king was better. Scar gets made and says never say that name again and deep down Scar is feeling some sadness and regrets for what he has done to this kingdom/land. One other thing I have noticed and could make a connection to is that every scene scar shows up in he is higher than the flat land, for example he is always on a rock or something that sits off the ground showing that he wants to or is going to become king at one point because he is higher than everyone, as in stands on bigger and higher objects.

  4. one thing i agree with would be the communism soviet sign that you see with scar and the moon that was crazy and i have never saw that before and it was definitely very interesting and i kind of agree because scar is just a piece of crap person only wanting the kindom but in reality he is screwing everything up by doing what he is doing and it makes me quit angery how he could just kill his brother like that and set siba up that it was all his fault like the lions a baby what the hecks he gonna know write from wrong but like i said scars just a piece of S$#T. Another one i thought was quit amusing and very bad was when they are all walking in a line and scars Hitler and there Nazi and it was just crazy like in a kids Disney movie they are gonna have that in there just horrendous and terrible to think that my children would be watching this film is just crazy why would they put all this stuff in this movie and what other movies have these back round cleverness that most people or critics are not seeing. I guess these people making these movies are just monsters to be honest one thing i didnt agree with was having to put that Nazi walk in there it was just too far the kids dont get it and they shouldnt ever get it its just wrong completely wrong to think that these movies are being okayed so that these kids watch them and laugh and then the parents are just crazed that these kids are watching some nazi movie or crazy people that like nazis and that want these children to be amused by these parts all i can say is its a messed up world

I personal see where Mr.C is coming from when he says it is sexist, and racist. I personal see how is it is sexist because Nala should be the king. She is stronger and smarter than Simba. I also think that girls are better than boys at a lot of things. Nala has beaten up Simba before and has proved him wrong. Nala is also very pretty for a lion and has the beauty and intelligent to be a king. But then I also see how they want a man to run the kingdom. It’s not like Nala wouldn't be in the kingdom and in with the riches. She would be Simba's Queen. I also think that Simba is very strong, why because he watched his dad die and then his Uncle Scar blamed him for killing his own dad. Also feel like the movie can be a little racist toward anyone that isn't white. They make the lions the white people and they live prefect they are the top of the food change pretty much. Then you have the poor people which are mostly blacks, Asian, and Mexican. They also make them look stupid in the movie, just because they are poor does not mean they are not smart. There are tons of poor people that make it out of the ghetto and in to the real life of having a huge house and money. Why because they used their education. Also think that in a way it doesn’t show the observations we just think to hard or maybe better than the movie produces did. We all have wonderful minds and different ways of showing are wonderful minds and the way I did some other people might not think the same way. There are millions of different observations in the movie and this are the two that stuck with me throughout what we watched so far.

  6. Two claims and two observations I've seen in the Lion King are one, it is portraying a communist scene where Scar wants power and he finds followers (hyenas) to back him up. He tries to kill Simba but Simba gets saved by his father and his father ends up dying. Scar told Simba to run away and to never come back so Simba runs away and meets new friends. Two, I saw an observation where it was portraying communist ideas like Hitler and the Nazis and Soviet Russia with the Sickle and Hammer. I believe that Disney is messed up and for Christ sake it's a children's movie. I believe that Walt Disney (HIMSELF) goes through the script and animations and he creates clever and insidious ideas and when he goes into the script he hides subliminal messages portraying sex, drugs, and war. People just don't understand and they watch for enjoyment and they don't realize what is actually going on. I saw a video about how Walt Disney puts clever and hidden subliminal messages about sex, drugs, and war in his movies. Do you know what the terrible part about this is? THEY ARE ALL KID MOVIES!!! I will share a link with you about my reason and this conspiracy, well it isn't a conspiracy because they pointed it out and and cracked it and solved it. Everyone just doesn't realize what the heck is going on these days. They get brainwashed by watching things they have no idea (especially for kids because their brains are basically mush) on what is going on. I don't intend to rant because I have no intention to but I am just speaking the truth about the Walt Disney and why I don't like him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meHsuA0b1uE

In the movie The Lion King there are many differences and many similarities. One of the things I do not agree with is that Simba becomes king when Nala should become queen of pride rock. Nala is way smarter and has better wits then Simba ever will. Nala always beats Simba up no matter how hard Simba tries to fight back. And Simba believes anything that his father or uncle tells him. Something I agree with is that how Simba goes back to the pride lands and still tries to fight back against his uncle to calm it back and bring back all of the land and animals who had either left or had went into hiding. Simba is a very brave and strong lion but he does not have the wits to defeat Nala but has the Strength to kill his uncle because his uncle killed his dad. Scar is a very smart and intelligent lion from what he plans on attacks to what he does to try and keep power over the lions and the hyena. Scar has more of the wits because his brother fell right into scars plan to kill both Simba and Mufsa. Mufsa I believe is a strong fighter but does not have the intelligence to fight his own family when he needs to. Timo and Pumba are very smart animals they know how to survive when they are shunned from their own family or friends. Timo and Pumba have this moto and it Hakuna Matata which stands for that you will have no worries in your life. I believe all the characters in the movie have an important role to show us how life is in lion world or in any animal that is hunted for food or their skin. So these are some things I agree with or disagree with.

  8. When simba was in the tree when scar left him it was most likely resembling that scar was crying because even though he was kind of an idiot for leaving simba in the middle of nowhere by himself and that he was a horrible lion he still had some sort of feeling for simba. Also When Scar was trying to get the hyenas to get together with him to take over the throne the songs started playing and they resembled a lot of communism and also they had some refrences of Hitler and his reign of terror. When Scar was sitting on the ledge with the crescent moon showing it was really a sign for communism and thats how it shows some signs of a communist nation. When the hyenas where in song and dancing they were marching almost exactly like Hitlers army was when he was in power. In my opinion I think that the creators of this movie were really trying to emphasize the fact that this is a pro American movie rather than a movie built twards communism. Also when the scene where Simba is led to a canyon under a tree by himself the picture before the next scene was some sort of sign or simble that something bad was about to happen. Some people thought that the image represented a tear that was falling from an eye which was a sign that either Scar was crying while walking away from Simba because he felt guilty that he was going to try to kill his brother and nephew in order to regain the throne from Simbas dad. Others thought that it was really Simbas eye that was crying because it was foreshadowing that something bad was abou to happen to him. I think that it resembled a tear from Scars eye from him feeling guilty for killing his only family members

In The Lion King Scar is the smarter lion and yet he is not king. Scar should be king because he is smarter and wiser than Mufasa. This movie is telling us that the stronger people should be in charge and not the smarter people. I do not agree with this because I would not want a person to be president just because they are physically strong. I would want a president that is mentally strong. The Lion King shows that trust is a very good thing to have. It shows this because Mufasa doesn’t lie to Symba but Scar lies to Symba to try and get him killed along with his father. Trust is a very good quality to have because if you don’t have trust then no one will believe a word that you are saying even if it is the truth sometimes. Being masculine is another trait that the Lion King portrays as a better quality than being feminine. Nala should be king “queen” because she would make a way better ruler. I do not agree that just because you are masculine you should automatically be in charger. The wiser and more intelligent person should be in charge. The Lion King also portrays being athletic over studious. I do not agree with this at all because although some people will go a long ways in athletics a lot more people will go farther in life if they are smarter and they will have a bigger house and a hotter spouse “Mr. Christensen”. If you just focus on athletics and you end up not being able to do sports anymore you will have to learn to do something else and if you aren’t smart then you will have a more tough time in your future.

  10. When we observed the scene of Simba while he was singing "I Just Can't Wait To Be King", I do not see it as a song about not being able to wait for his father's death. Instead, I remember that Simba is a child with a distorted image of his role in the circle of life at that moment. He isn't really aware, at that moment, that his father has to die for him to become a king. Simba shows his lack of understanding of the circle of life as he tries to taunt the hyenas. Do you really think that the hyenas wouldn't have killed him if he had a louder roar? Of course not. They would have killed him on sight. Overall, Simba seems to be a naive, childish lion with a sense of entitlement, which I think is part of the theme for the movie.

The second observation was that the movie is sexist. I agree with this observation because of the actions of the lionesses. In the movie, the lionesses are seen lying around and sleeping, while the lions do all the work. That isn't the case for society. Women work just as much as men do and are not to be seen as an inferior gender. In all honesty, the movie makes the women seem like sexual playthings for the lions. They show that Mufasa can and will have children with all of the lionesses whenever he wants. They have only somewhat developed the female characters in the movie as well. Simba's mother hasn't even had her name mentioned at all in the movie. Do they think that her name isn't important or that she should play an important role in Simba's life? She hasn't taught Simba anything. I guess that the father has to do all the teaching.

I agree with the claim that The Lion King is racist pretzel. I agree with the claim because the lions and hyenas are segregated. Also the lions voices are of the lions sound of collocation and the hyenas voices sound like Hispanic and African American. I don't agree with the claim that Mufasa is not smart because when he speaks he actually sounds like he is much more wiser than his brother Scar. Scar is just witty and a little clever but I don't think that he has the wisdom and the life lesson to be king.

  12. The Lion King is very meaningful story that is recreating as lions that want to be kings. In order to be kings theirs all these rules to be king. Well scar is very needed that want obey the king/ brother. Scar is one the lions that is out to scare other living things and everyone around him that dose not obey him. Scar has a sneaky way of louring good people so he can be meaningful in his own way. Scar is also is like the devil that is taking the best of the kings so he as Scar can take the king chair.

  13. I agree with the statement you made about how the movie seems to be pro athletic not pro brians. I agree with this because when you view Mufasa and Scar standing next to each other you can tell Mufasa's much bigger and far more stronger then Scar. At the same time though you can also tell that Scar is much smarter and more intelligent than Mufasa yet he's not King, Mufasa is. When Scar does become King later on in the movie it makes things look like its bad to have an intelligent guy running things. Another good example of how they favor muscles not brains is the way that everyone beats up on Zazu. Hes obviously extremely smart but no one really cares about that. They only keep him around for when they need him to do all the stuff they can not, or are too busy to do at the time. All the animals that want to look cool to show off or whatever bully him. They pick on him and beat him up. They call him names and use him for their pouncing targets.
One statement that you made that I disagreed with is how you said that Scar wants full communism. I agree that Scar is a communist but things are not looking to equal in their land right now. I know part of it is because thats the way Disney wants us to see it. If we had a communistic country it would be dark all the time and no one would be happy other than the ruler. Sure all the hyenas are finally getting to eat and they're not starving anymore, but Scar not being equal in sharing all that he gets. Nala even said that the hyenas have taken over the Pride land and I just don't see how thats very communism. If scar wanted to have a full communistic community he would make sure that they all got equal care and food. That they all had a job that they had to do, including him. All he does is lay around and pick on Zazu.

  14. There are two oberservations that i have seen in the lion king and one of them i believe and one of them i think is false. Also When Scar was trying to get the hyenas to get together with him to take over the throne the songs started playing and they resembled a lot of communism and also they had some refrences of Hitler and his reign of terror. The lion king is racist. It’s racist in the way of shadows, and light. The "ghetto" is the shadow. And most ghettos are colored people. And that’s why it is racist. Not only is it racist but it is showing that bad people, “scar” will be taken down by the right people so others do not live in hell. The light shows where the “wealthy” would live, in light, paradise. The people in the light have a lot more the animals in the shadow. The Shadow animals have a elephant grave yard with a pos leader.

The lion kings also shows the someone that is raised without love, comfort, with not have sympathy for anything or anyone just like scar. Scar is a lion that had no love or comfort it seems like. Scar kills his own brother, and tried to kill his nephew. That shows that scar has no sympathy by throwing his brother off the rocks, and killing him. And by setting his nephew up to be trampled by the stampede that was not supposed to happen but scar had the hyenas.

Mr. C has shown me more about life with this movie. Showed me that Really bad things happen, and you have to move on, no matter how much it hurts you. and you will be tens times stronger in the end. When bad stuff comes your way, fight your way out, and you will be strong. Simba the king and now everything is back to what it was when simbas father was king, happiness

  16. In class, we watched The Lion King. Mr. C told us that there were parts of the movie that were communist and racist. I think both of these are true.

When Scar was on a rock, the moon was behind him. The moon and Scar were a Communist sign. Also, the way the hyenas marched, they were marching in a similar way that the Nazi's did.

I think it showed racism the way the lands were shown light and dark. The way the actors/characters sounded in the light sounded like white people whereas the actors who played the characters in the darkness sounded like Mexicans and black people.
