The Shawshank Redemption can be related to so many things from movies and shows that I can name within seconds and minutes. The people who run and control the prisons and secured facilities are always making it inhumane for prisoners to deal with. These things are similar to Cool Hand Luke, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, and The Green Mile. The things they do to them is treat them harshly by beating them up for no reason, drive them insane, and don’t want them to go. Whenever it’s a newbie showing up in the prison, he makes changes to the place by making everyone feel holy and tough, giving them courage to escape, and trying to stop the people who are trying to ruin everything. The newbie will then figure out that he’s innocent and they’re not going to let him go or anything like that. Before I saw those movies a long time ago the thing I only noticed is that the guards in real-life sometimes have issues with their money and they can’t always do anything about it. The other thing the newbie has coming is a close friend of his that will help as long as he himself helps him too. The two become more humanized and are always the ones who will have a happen ending or not or at the same time. Since those are the known prison and secured facilities no one in the modern time can capture anything like that if they were planning on making movies related to which it will not happen. Now, those are the comparisons and relations to other movies and shows related to The Shawshank Redemption.
I would say that the Shawshank Redemption is like the Great Escape or Escape from Alcatraz because it showed us how to escape from a deadly prison and I would say that the Shawshank redemption was inspired by Escape from Alcatraz and they are both powerful and amazing films that I have seen. They both are very impactful and actually watching each scene carefully helps me understand the film better. The shawshank redemption has really good actors in it and what they are able to do at their age is incredible. The camera angles are top notch as well, they must have had some next generation cameras or something because they can zoom in on people so close from far away. I just looked up what shawshank meant and it said “Being put into a position that you can't get out of either by yourself or others.” Now Andy was able to do that the reason was he was innocent for one, two he was a financial banker who was really smart and knew what he was doing and by that he was able to escape. Not only did he get raped but he tried fighting back ----- not like any other prisoner would do------ Andy did which kind of surprised me, but he was in a room that know one really would go in at that time of the film, but what I’m getting at is these films are impactful in a way if you make impactful and these films are rated number 1 for a reason because of there great filmmaking and actors.
What time of show/movie is relatable to shawshank redemption i think the tv show prison brake is relatable the whole time they have a plan to leave the prison they both dig tunnels it is supper time con suming a will take years to mater they know that there on a dead line both main characters are highly educated and 2 of the characters are in there for crimes they didn't do they both have lots of money when they get out to go some where fair away in both tv show and movie they get the gards to be on there side and watch out for them terrible things happen to theses men in prison things theses guys will remember for the rest of there lives when getting out of prison andy heads for the ocean where he will live out the rest of his life behind walls but not the kind your thinking of he will live behind the great sea wall vs the prison brake guys make a run for mexico to live out the rest of their lives in both shows the guys have friend groups theses friends will get them anything they need and will do almost anything for them the prisons are both supper high security with guards every where the only difference is time and technology in shashank redemption the prison dosent even have camras vs prison brake has all the high quallty suff i guess thats just the difference between the 1900s and the 2000s meier
I would say that Shawshank is similar to The Maze Runner. I think that because everyone there is innocent and they are all trying to figure out how to get out, like Andy. They go through so much torcher and hate just like Andy does the first few years hes there. The guys in The Maze Runner Have to fight off all of these monsters and try to get food on their own without getting eaten. ANdy and the other guys in the jail don’t necessarily have to get their own food but they have to wait in line and eat gross stuff, like the guys in Maze Runner. Every person in The Maze Runner is innocent. They just get picked randomly and put into the little maze. The guys in the jail are kinda the same way they are innocent but got put as not innocent. They are random to just like Tommy was different from anyone else there, especially in their group. Andy tries to figure out how to get out after he started carving his name into the wall and a piece of wall fell off. The tunnel that Andy makes is kinda like the maze from The Maze Runner because Andy has to climb and jump and wiggle through areas he would not know were there. The Maze Runner guys have the same thing; they don’t know what is in the maze; they just try to go through it and hope they find a way out without getting eaten. The Maze Runners have to depend on whatever is trying to get them and eat them by killing it. Andy in the jail had to fend off the Sisters that raped him the first couple of years he was there. THe Maze Runners are pretty much forced to make friends because they have to work together. The jail guys like Andy kinda have to make friends also if they want certain things from the outside. Andy has Red and Red has other people that can get them stuff.
In what ways is The Shawshank Redemption similar to anything else (movie, show...) you've ever seen?
Shawshank Redemption is similar to Prison Break. The reason why I think this is because when Andy was planning to escape prison. Michael is like Andy because they both planned to escape prison but Michael did it multiple times. They also planned where to go after they escaped. They are also both really smart. They know a lot of things. Another reason why the movie and the show is similar is by their setting. Witch is in prison. But Prison Break isn’t just in a prison. There are multiple times in Prison Break when people are planning something. Another way that they are similar is by a guard. In Prison Break there is a guard that hates Michael and doesn’t protect him. But as the season goes on the guard starts to help him. It is the same way in Shawshank, Andy and the head guard. Andy helps out the head guard and he starts to help Andy out. Another is that they both have friends in prison. Michael has a lot of friends in prison, except they help him escape as well escape with him. Andy also has friends in prison but they don’t help him escape. They are also similar as they both escaped by a tunnel.
This film reminds me of an anime where the MC when entering another world, with 3 others from different dimensions, became an outcast from the different heroes who had either a bow, sword, or spear, and our MC had a shield that was somewhat useless until the middle to end of season 1 became the most liked person after the queen came back to the kingdom of Melromarc and the anime is called The Rising of the Shield Hero it started off with the MC all of a sudden going to a different world after looking for a light novel to read and then was sent to help defend from the waves of all sorts of monsters who want to kill off all of the world that he was sent to, and it now leaves our MC at a standstill because nobody wants to join his party (think of this as an RPG where you save the world or D I E) until he buys a demi-human tanuki slave and treats her as his firstborn daughter where the only way she can be set free is the use of a slave crest that will help her become braver with the “encouragement” to help save herself and the shield hero and as she levels up, her physical form turns from a small girl to that of a young woman (doesn’t do any woohoo with her, she’s still 10 years old) and helps her go through the harsh crap, then there was an attempted assasination of the next queen resulting in the MC, Raphtalia, Filo (I know I skipped her, shut) and Malty Melromarc resulting in the Three Heroes Church to do an attempted assassination on the shield hero, the spear hero, the bow hero, and the sword hero, origonally trying to kill the bow and sword hero with a fake area, and the queen arresting anyone affilliated with the Three heroes church and killing of the priest
I will compare Shawshank Redemption to The Green Mile. The reason I pick this is that it has a lot of similarities. One similarity is that one of the guards from Shawshank Redemption is Hadley and in the other movie The Green Mile is Percy. They are really close because they both beat the prisoners. Hadley in the movie will beat or even kill some of them. Percy will beat one prisoner in general. Percy beat him and broke his fingers and when he walked the green mile Percy is the one that was in charge of the prisoner's execution and he didn’t put the wet sponge on him so he burned to death because he didn’t do it right. Another similarity is that Andy from Shawshank Redemption and John Coffey in The Green Mile. They both got wrongly evicted in both movies. Andy and John Coffey both got evicted for murder for two people. Pfeiffer
I would say that Shawshank is similar to The Maze Runner. I think that because everyone there is innocent and they are all trying to figure out how to get out, like Andy. They go through so much torcher and hate just like Andy does the first few years he's there. Andy has Red and Red has other people that can get the stuff.
Shawshank Redemption is similar to The Great Escape. It's similar because both Shawshank and Great escape show what prison is like during a World War. Shawshank shows us that not all people in prison are bad. Red was one of the nice guys and let Andy join his friend group and he got him stuff. Both movies show whats it's like in solitary confinement. But Shawshank is more strict on solitary confinement because they would give them months in the hole. The hole for Great Escape is a lot better because they can actually bring things into the hole like a baseball to keep them busy so you don't go insane. Both Andy and Steve Mcqueen both escaped towards the end of the movie, but Steve Mcqueen was being chased and shot at. After the running, they both escaped and never returned to prison.
Rai I like to compare Shawshank redemption with the walk dead. It is like the same movie because there is no hope in the movie. In Shawshank Redemption, they rap you in there and feel like there is no hope to live. In the walk dead there is no hope to live because you are going to die from a zombie or kill yourself. The main characters they always have hope in the movie they will do something to be free and other characters they never hope in the movie.
Well, this movie Reminds me of Cool Hand Luke. First of all, they are in a place where they brought because they committed a crime. But In this movie, Andy did not commit a crime. Both of the movies show how corrupt and unfair the criminal justice is. Both characters are treated badly by the boss and looked down on. The movies also show that they made really good friends in there and got each other back. They also show that they only stick with their own groups. some other similarities of the movies are when the escape part is. They both wanted to escape because they feel like they don’t belong there. But in cool hand Luke he was not that patient about how he was going to make an escape. Tried 3 times but died at the end due to getting shot at. But in the end, they both brought hope to people and smiles to their faces.
The Shawshank Redemption reminds me of Cool Hand Luke, one big thing is the prison setting. Both take place in prison, even around the same time frame. Both movies show prisoners doing some labor, along with solitary confinement. Luke was put in “the box” and would have to sit in there for a long period of time, and Andy had to sit in “the hole”, because of their behavior. Luke and Andy are very similar as well, both are very tough mentally and have a lot of willpower. Luke is very opposing to authority and desires freedom, just like Andy. Luke opposes authority directly, attempting to escape multiple times, Andy was more indirect, by building up to escape secretly by tricking the Warden. Both had managed to escape from prison, but Luke didn’t escape alive, he was shot dead by no eyes. Andy however, completely escaped and set out to fulfill his dreams.
Shawshank redemption is kinda related to escape from Alcatraz because in Alcatraz Frank Morris is like Andy Dufrane. They are related because at the beginning they come in all quiet and doesn't talk to others but after a while, they start meeting friends. In both movies. In both movies, it shows how hard it is to escape from prison without getting caught. It shows how much time, effort, and planning it takes to escape. It shows how much planning because how they will escape when they will escape, who is trustworthy to help you, how are you going to get the things to escape. It also took Andy Dufrane ten years to escape and months for Frank Morris to escape. I like who they cast for those people because they play the character well. I like how both films showed the escape scene because of how intense it is to escape and I like how they both timed the escape scenes during a thunderstorm because of how some of the thunder can cover the sound of escaping. I'm surprised at how fast Frank Morris was able to escape from Alcatraz than Andy Dufrane was in Shawshank. I thought that Alcatraz would be harder to escape from. I also enjoyed how the main characters were able to get the things for escape and how they knew who was trustworthy.
Shawshank redemption is similar to actual prison because they go on lockdown every night, they take role every morning, and the food they eat also looks really bad. I imagine that's how its like in real prison. It also reminds me of this show on netflix called 60 days in. In the show they pick 6 people that applied and they think would be the best fit to be in the position they pick. They go into prison for 60 days and they figure out what is going on inside prison. It's just like the shawshank redemption because it shows what it is like in prison. The only thing that is different is it doesnt show any escaping out of prison. There is another show that reminds me of shawshank redemption called the great escape. It is kinda similar to the Shawshank redemption because they escape from the prison and so does andy.
I feel like the Shawshank redemption doesn't seem similar to anything I watch. I don't really watch moves or tv-shows or if I had to say it is similar to anything ill say it is a lot like sarif of the end, it's an anime I lot. Mika is a lot like andy, shy, kind, smart,
I never watch that many movies nowadays. I only can sit down and watch a film if it intrigues me or seems interesting to watch. I do know of the legacy The Shawshank Redemption had and I do try to keep my expectations just right to make sure I won't disappoint myself if I didn't end up liking the movie. The Shawshank Redemption doesn't disappoint at all!
It reminds me of The Martian. It shows how people can overcome some of the biggest fears and obstacles in life and still make it to the other side a hero and a free man. Both of them go long periods without contact from anyone and have many difficulties to go through as well. Both of these men learn to adapt and move with the waves of challenges and grow as humans and to be better people and appreciate what they do have and what they used to have. In Shawshank Redemption, andy is faced with rape, isolation, and neglect. It’s the same with the mark as well, he was abandoned by people that didn't know what actually had happened to him in the first place. They both struggles with the feeling of loneliness and both make it out to the other side and then everything that they went through ends up being a distant memory. They carry what they went through not as a burden or a burn but as a mark that shows others that they became stronger and more resistant because of what happened to them and what they went through. -cat
