I feel like slingblade is a good movie about how like people could treat mentally ill people and how they are kind of rude to them because of how they were born, and how people could like see that even though they seem different they are almost exactly alike us. You could understand that people can't help the way they are born, and not judge them for things they did in the past because they thought it was right, and later on learned that it was wrong. Frank is a good example and so is Doyle, Frank knows that Karl has killed someone, he doesn't know who or why, but he still sees Karl as a good person, who doesn't want to do anymore harm. Doyle, he's as rude as can be. Calling him a retard every sentence, picking on him, telling him he ain't scared of him at all. Doyle seems a piece of trash to everyone, but maybe if he was raised a little better and taught better, he'd be a little more kind like Linda and Frank. -Hite

I think it is a good movie so far. Because the character can still function and can do everyday things. My favorite part so far is when he is in the state hospital still, and he goes into the room and has the lights off and talks to the reporter. The reason why I like that part is that it shows you who he really is and what he has all done. I don't like the part when Doyle is throwing his party and just starts throwing stuff and kicks everyone out. When he tries to make the store manager leave and then he goes after franks mom. But I don't know what is going to happen when he tells her that he has killed his mom and a boy named Jesse Dixon. There are always new people coming into the movie too. It is an interesting movie with something different happening. It makes you think about what he is doing and how he is adjusting to it. I think this movie will be good and have a good ending.

Sling Blade is in my thought a really decent movie. There is a really good back round and plot to this story. The part at the beginning was so subtle yet learning of his life. Karl is a really good man that got worked up over the fact that his mom was cheating on his father. Even though he doesn't talk much and what not he doesn't have a full head in there for that but yet he can understand everything clearly and think things through. Other than maybe not sleeping in a bed that isn't his or just standing on a porch instead of nocking seems weird but from his past it shows that he wasn't really raised outside of the shed nor the hospital he was in. All of this so far is showing that he is trying to fit in but he cant. The movies is greatly showing that he is still trying to but still cant fully get into the society.

I personally like to reflect on this movie not like a reflection of the past, but rather a story that describes it. It isn't a true story, but it might as well have been. This movie enlightens those who do not know about the prejudices they might make against people of lesser intellect but does so in a way that they understand why it is so terrible. I think this is the most interesting movie we have watched so far, and I would like to see more movies like this in the future. The other movies we have watched were much more symbolic in their connection to the real world. This one, along with Gran Torino, are interesting but not for the same reasons. They are interesting for their plausible dynamic plots. These things could have actually happened and they describe what the past was like. So far, the movie has impressed me.

I like the movie and how we have studied it. How it show that the world is not easy for instance Karl has some problems and that got him in trouble when he was a kid and I think he is realising that it was a huge impact on his life. How it has affected him not just as a kid but as an adult. For Doyle also like how his last name is Hargraves and how it kinda describes the way he is and acts like he should be in the grave. It may seam a bit gruesome but we are adults now and we have to realise that life is not perfect by any means. We don't always have to learn the hard way like Karl did.

Hofer i think that this movie is very interesting and that it shows a perspective of what it was like to be mentally challenged in those time. it showed how hard it is and how he got lucky to find a family that will take care of him.this movie shows that how mean people use to be and how unpolitical correct they use to say every thing they were calling everyone that wasn't that smart "retarded" which wouldn't be accepted in todays times.my thought about this movie that it is very good and i would recommend it to a friend .

I made a few typos in this one and suddenly had something I wanted to add so I reposted with my edits.

My initial thoughts about the movie .Is it shows me how other people can treat others different by there appearance. example is how frank likes Karl for himself he doesn't mind that he's different then everyone else. In the movie Karl show's me that you can forgive people for things they did too you in the past. I don't like how Doyle treats everyone and how he can treat them badly and show them with no respect.

I believe that sling blade is a very interesting movie. It has a very intense beginning and settles down for a bit so that you can get to know the characters and their back grounds. This lets us get to know Karl Chillders and all the other characters like Frankie, Frankie's mom, Doyle, Vaughn, and many more. I think this movie is a great learning point to show people what times were like 23 years ago.

My thoughts about sling blade. I think sling blade is really interesting to watch because it tells you what kind if disability he has and struggles he's facing specially with his past. Like in some movies I get bored and not pay any attention anymore but this has my full attention. I can tell he really haven't experience life yet because he so use to being in a barn with no one and no friends being make fun of. Good thing he met this kid that talks to him and considered his friend. He cares about him and he also has a good since of humor. Another thing is when he got out if the hospital he got a job that he loves to do and some money for simple supplies like toothpaste and recreation and shelter. Then he upgraded into a garage with people that care about him.

I personally like the movie Sling Blade. Because it shows how the mentally disabled might have been treated back then. Even though it could have been both good and bad in the ways those types of people were treated. I think the characters were each played well in how they treated each other. The young boy in the movie who played the son, did a good job playing his part. He is nice and he welcomes Karl Childers into his home since he doesn't have a place to stay after he has been released from the state hospital. He and Karl like to have conversations, you can tell that Karl is open with talking to Frank about why he was in the state hospital. They kind of have similar background history, Karl's dad doesn't want anything to do with him, and doesn't even know where he is. Frank lives with his mother Linda Wheatley but his father left him or he passed away when he was a young kid.

I think that Sling Blade is a very good movie. The reason behind me thinking that this is an astonishing film is for it showing a really good "picture" throughout the movie. What I mean by picture is how throughout the whole movie it shows that even though you've made mistakes in life you can still be a very caring person and learn from your mistake. On top of that it shows in the movie that everyone should be treated equally even though there are a lot of parts where that isn't the case. I'm not trying to focus on the bad parts. An example that I am using to back up my statements is that Karl Childers made a horrible mistake and learned from his actions and was a very respectable man. Also, the reasoning I stated that it displays throughout the film everyone should be treated equally part is when Karl got out and made friends with Frank he soon was allowed to stay in Franks moms house. He was treated equally by Doyle but other than that Linda and Frank highly accepted him, enjoyed his company, and like the person he was in general. That's my reasoning behind why I majorly like this film. // Riley Larson Pd.4

what i think about sling blade. For one thing i think that Karl is not really a bad guy because he really didn't do anything wrong he was just protecting the people he loved and he doesn't seem like he would hurt any one. what I think about frank he seems like a good kid who just want to help his mother and do what is right and he see Karl as like a friend someone that he can relate to. I also know that frank does not like his mother boyfriend because he seems like he has had a rough life but he act like a massive jerk and does not care for frank or Karl he also seems like doial would keep causing trouble he also seems really unstable that he would hurd people if he was drunk or mad enough. Ms.Witley she seems like she wants to help her son but she wants to have someone in her life romantically but having someone like doyle is not a good idea because of how violent he could be. I also think that it is a good thing that Karl was able to make things in his life work out for the better.

Karl was in the hospital for killing his mom, and when he got out he found a job and they even gave him some money so that he can get on his feet and buy the stuff he needs. Karl found this kid that needed some help caring some things. Karl told his new friend frank what he did but only told half the story, and frank told karl that his dad got hit by a train but that wasn't at all what happened. Karl loves his fries, every time they go out that's what he get's. Karl and Frank are getting along pretty well, they played football and karl was trying to be like frank's dad throwing him the ball so that he could score and make him feel good. Karl is also really good at fixing lawn mowers for the person he work's for.

Keisha Felcher. I think slingblade is a good movie so far. I like how Karl interacts with the kid and befriends him. I also like how the kid kicked the drunk guy that his mom was seeing out of the house for pushing his mother into a door. Also how the mother stands up for herself to the drunken man. I also think that Karl does know how to manage on his own he just needs a little direction on where to go and how to take it. I also feel like Karl knew how to tell off that drunken man because I feel like he was feeling sorry for the mother for getting pushed. I also feel like Karl feels lonely.

My initial thoughts about Sling Blade are pretty good. I think that the way the movie plays out is highly effective on seeing what people with disabilities like Karl had to go through on an everyday basis. The overall thought about the movie is pretty good to I think that the story behind karl and what he all goes through is shown pretty good as well. The movie could have been better though in my eyes just because some of the scenes in the movie are to extra. An example would be when kalrs “girlfriend” brings him flowers. We don't see or hear anything from her or about her after that. So minor fixes that could have made the movie more enjoyable to watch but it is still a great movie to watch. Highly recommended. Following that I think when Karl goes to see his dad and the old place he used to live at. I think that they could have made it a better scene than it was. Like I found it to be weird how his dad was just sitting there like compared to the rest of the house the one room he was sitting in wasn't to bad it just had a bunch of clutter and it was messy. But if you were to look at the rest of the house it was all falling apart and there wasn’t much to the house.

My initial thoughts about sling when I saw the cover of the movie. I saw that there was an adult with a little kid and that he looked a little weird I thought it was going to be about a mentally challenged person and I thought that he was brothers with kid and the adult gets bullied all the time for being mentally challenged I didn’t think that he was a killer. When I first looked at the title of the movie I didn’t know what to think about the movie I didn’t know what a sling blade and I really still don’t in my mind I think that a sling blade is long and have a carve to it. When I looked at the cover of the movie I looked at the little and I thought he was a brother to the older guy and that he wasn’t very wealthy because of his clothes. I really didn’t think they had a house because it didn’t show it on the movie cover and it didn’t really look like they had a house because of their clothes. Everybody told me that it would be good so I had a good feeling about the movie and it sounded like a guy that murders a bunch of people.

I personally like the movie Slingblade because it shows that you should never make fun of someone or judge them just because of there mental or physical disabilities. I think everyone should be able to be treated equally and as respected as everyone as is treated. It should never matter on their disabilities. But in the beginning, Karl meets a boy named Frank, and they get along very well, Frank invites Karl to sleep in there garage. Then Linda's boyfriend starts picking on Frank and Karl pretty bad. But then, in the end, Karl tells Frank to go stay with Vaughn because he is going to kill Linda's boyfriend because he says he has had enough. But overall, I think that this was a great movie and would definitely recommend it to someone else to watch.

I like Sling Blade. I find it a good movie so far and it is very diverse in a way because Karl has a disability and it shows you how "normal people" can get along with people with different things than them. It shows you what struggles Karl has and it gives you in the insight of why he did what he did. It gives you a different perspective and a different outlook on different people and it helps you to not judge people based on their past because people change. Like Karl had killed someone in his past, yes, but Frank didn't judge him for it, instead, he opened his home to him and gave him a friend. He didn't cut him out of his life for that incident he gave him another opportunity.

This blog post is being typed later after I saw the entire movie, but I remember what my initial thoughts were. Right off the bat I just assumed that Karl was crazy. I thought that though he was abused I did not think that the killing of his mother was justified. Maybe the killing of his mother never was justified, but I at least understand why he did it. Karl was never taught anything so there was no way of him knowing that killing was wrong when mistreated. Karl didn't get that you couldn't just kill people because nobody ever taught him anything so he didn't see an issue with it. Karl is not crazy he just did not know the difference between right and wrong, but at the beginning of the movie, I did not yet understand that. I had never really thought too hard about abused or neglected children before I watched this so I didn't really think of how morals are a taught concept. I started this movie very close-minded and overly opinionated. I am a very opinionated person which is often a quality people look down upon, but I think as long as you keep an open mind and are willing to change an opinion whether it through learning yourself or listening to someone's argument. While I do not think murder is an acceptable solution for anything I also understand what was running through Karl's mind. Right at the beginning of the movie I knew that Karl had been mistreated his entire life and he didn't know what it was like to be cared about yet somehow he remained wholesome and caring for others even though as far as his life has went he has never been loved. -Joseph Wardlow
