Keisha Felcher. To me, there is no such thing as normal. People can be different in their own ways. You could also do things differently than other people. If someone has a disability that does not mean they are not normal, it just means that they have a disability and they are sick or something. Or you could also say that people are doing it differently than the original way it supposed to be done. I also believe that some people think that normal is having a perfect family, not being sick, and living your best life. Others may seem to think that the way they do things is the normal way. I also don’t think that a lot of people think there is a normal. But there are some people that say normal is not doing the right thing when there is no right or wrong answer or way to do it.
I think we define normal as having no disabilities or like the gay store owner Vaughn. Or another example Karl has a mental disability. But I don't think those people should be treated any differently than normal humans that don't have disabilities or ones who like the same gender. The definition of "normal" is- Conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural. Serving to establish a standard.
We define normal as something we see every day. It is something that everyone wants to be or they want to just fit in. So it is dressing like everyone else and going to a regular job. Normal isn't just the way you dress either. It is also the way you act. Because some people aren't "normal" because they do something different than someone else. So a lot of the time the people that aren't normal get pushed to the side or "shadowed". But there are some people who aren't normal and they do more than just a normal person. A good example of when this happened was Stan Lee. When he was a high school kid he was bullied because he would make comics books in school. People would make fun of him and take his comic books he was writing and throw them or rip the pages out. But the people who did all of that to him didn't know their kids would end up loving the same books they once ripped up. So I guess that was one way a not "normal person got to sit back and be relaxed as being not normal. That is what I think about normal and how it is used.
People who are considered normal by other people are those who conform to society's standards. There are social norms and "mores" (i.e. morals and "proper" ways of acting or behaving) that people follow and "sanctions" (i.e. punishments) for those who do not; For example, people may scowl at you for bumping into them in the hallway. That scowl would be a sanction. The standards of society are always said to have fallen. In the 50's culture was completely different and people had different sanctions and norms than today. Elvis Presley was considered scandalous! We determine the standards of society based on what most of society is doing and whether or not they consider it moral. People who are abnormal are deviants. There are several types of deviance, from people who shoplift to people who curse. People who are deviant don't follow the norms of society and those who do are conformists. Sometimes it is okay to go against what everyone else is doing, it was considered deviant to NOT smoke at one point in history. No one ever said anything was wrong with being abnormal either, as long as you are not immoral. The idea that people need to conform in a society is only there because without conformity you have a lack of rhythm or routine for a society to take place. People gather with similar interests and form similar behaviors it is natural and therefore it is normal.
noah hofer]Normal is the expected way people are supposed to act or its typical for people to act like this so they don't stand out or get noticed or criticized.people live this way so they don't have pressure to be normal again. I can't really describe what normal is but it's a lifestyle to not differ from a lot of people. In the question you show a picture of a gay man and in today's time loving another man is “normal” to be with the wrong sex.i don't really get how I'm supposed to write on the word normal but in this movie him being gay isn't normal Karl wasn't considered normal Doyle was considered normal for just all the words he used and it was considered politically correct.in this movie it was normal for someone to live in a garage or a shed I don't know why but it was normal for the whole movie because when Karl left the hospital everywhere he stayed was in a shed and even when he was a kid he lived in a shed.
We define normal as people who go out and do things, get along with everyone, are good in school, people who we like. We don't sit and think you know that pedophiles are normal or that serial killers are normal. We may think they are interesting to know about, and creepy, but never normal. We in this day and age, would not think that Karl Childers is a normal person. In certain aspects, he isn't. Karl is extraordinary. He has an extra gift. Not just that though, we would think he is crazy, out of his mind, narcissistic and incapable of love for killing his mother and that boy like that, but in reality, he's just a normal guy, trying to make things right for the people he loves, and cares about. He doesn't wanna see the people he loves experience pain in the way they do, so he tries to fix it for them. Karl loved that little boy like a son, and he killed Doyle to protect him and his momma from being hurt by him again. Karl is normal, but he's also extraordinary.
Riley Larson Applied English 12 Pd.4 There is no way in my world to define normal. Everyone is different in their own kind of way and there is not a pair of 2 that are exactly the same. I am a firm believer that only you can have your own vision of "normal" in this world and this film presents that very well. Everybody in this film is normal. For example, Vaughn being bisexual and having the same sex partner that is his own normal. Some people may discriminate and hate him for being gay but that is not right. Just because you are different than others doesn't mean you should be respected or treated differently in any way even though that is not the case in this world at all times. Karl Childers has a disability but Frank, Linda, Vaughn, and many other people throughout the film treat him as if he is just like everyone else in the universe and that is how it should be even though not everyone agrees with that as shown in the film. Even though Doyle is a very, very bad guy, he is his own way of normal even though he treats Linda, Karl, Frank, and all of his band members very poorly because for some reason he views himself as more superior than the rest which is not right because everyone deserves the amount of respect that they give and he gets more respect throughout the film then he should have ever received.
Normal? I don't think that anyone is "normal". That is just a saying that people use to say they are better than someone else that may not have a slower mind, looks different, or sounds different. The fact that normal isn't a real thing is redundant to the language of us saying that I'm better than you. Being your self is your own type of normal. You're normal should not be anyone else's business on if it is or not. Also for what you say it or is stupid because of the fact that you think you are normal and a person with a bigger belly is something that should never be said. It would be normal for him to have a big belly instead of you. No one is normal in anyone's eyes but your own eyes of your self.
I define normal as a person that can properly speak and communicate with other people. I would say if you work like everyone else also go to movies with friends, bowling and other recreation. I would also say normal is when you have shelter and don't walk around the streets and wear clothing and bath every day. Have a vehicle you can get around with. Have some hobbies when you get bored at home or somewhere you’re at. I think the most part as a human would be normal is have a family you care about and people that you love and friends. If someone that you care about and there having problems help them out as much as you can. Also, care for animals, I hate seeing people disrespectful and especially hurting their pets. Normal to me is always greet people when you meet them and have good manners when you speak. Lastly normal is hard to explain. Like, how is normal to you it's different for everyone else. Like some people can't walk or function like other people can. Like me, it's hard to comprehend things as much as other people can. Everyone learns differently in certain ways. Also may have a harder time speaking or seeing. People might have disabilities like Karl but they're still physically and mentally strong as much as all of us.
I define normal as a someone that can properly speak and communicate with other people. You work everyone else in this world and hang out with your friends like go to movies and etc. I would also consider normal is someone taking showers every day and having clean clothes one and taking care of yourself. What I also consider normal is everyone just being themselves if you have a disability your just as normal as everyone else in my perspective. You can have hobbies and spending time with people you care about what I think of normal. Just being yourself and having good manners and showing respect towards other people. Normal is having good communication skills what I mean by that is greeting others and shaking their hands when you greet them. What also think of normal no one can be just normal everyone is different in there own way example Karl had a disability that made everyone think he was different which I thought he was just as everyone else he was physically and mentally strong just as everyone else and people with disability can be stronger than most people an have a bigger heart than other people want in life.
Defining normal I think that in my opinion that there is really no such thing as being normal because each and every one of us have something that makes us different or unique. Most ways that people define normal is that everyone reacts the same way or do the same things and if someone is different people think that it is not all that normal. Take me for example people look at me and think that i’m different but when you get to know me they would see that i act like everyone else even though that i’m in a wheelchair. So that what i think is that there really no such thing as being normal because i’m different from other people but that does not mean that i'm that much different from any of hundreds of other people i see every day. Also how are we supposed to know what is normal maybe i'm supposed to be able to walk or maybe everyone else should be in wheelchairs so how do we know what is suppose to be normal. So in another way it ok to be different because no one is normal everyone has something that is uninike.
Normal is a word that is hard to define. It means to be regular and to fit in. A person who is normal doesn't stand out in a crowd but also doesn't avoid the crowd either. A person who you'd think of when you think of normal would be the most average person possible. Here in the United States a normal person would be straight and be white. A normal person would go to work every day at a desk job and would live in a middle class suburb or in a middle class part of a city. The irony about normal is if someone was just normal and average in every aspect of their life that would be abnormal. It is normal to not be completely normal in every way making most people seem pretty normal. What would make someone seem abnormal would probably if they had one extremely noticeable quality that most people do not. Someone would is part of a different culture, has some type of accent, or any type of noticeable mental or physical disability are just a few qualities that could set someone off and make them seem just not very normal. - Joseph Wardlow
I personally don't like the term "normal" because each and every one of is unique in our own ways, we were each created special and have special gifts and talents. It should never matter on what a person looks like, talks like, etc. No one should be able to feel judged because of there looks. It's different in each culture though, like how they view each other could be totally different then what we agree with or with what we see. Hood- pd.4

Valdez- Normal is a weird word it personally doesn't have meaning and doesn't apply to anyone or anything. Normal is a way of culture and people. Everyone and everything has its own type of normal. like for Vaughn being gay is normal but to some other people, it is not normal. During the time that this movie was made, it was frowned upon to be gay and not normal but nowadays it's okay by some people and societies to be gay. In other countries normal has its own meaning as well. For example, some countries think normal is women do not have rights and cannot speak and men have power over the house but no civilian matters to the government. That definitely does not fit our normal here in the United States. Overall normal is a weird and a not very specific word that shouldn't be used.
There isn’t any way to define normal. Everyone is different in their own way and doesn’t mean that it is a problem like most people think. It's okay to stand out and not be like everyone else and be yourself. We all shouldn’t thrive to impress a certain somebody by doing what everyone else is doing your literally just going in a circle when people don't stand out and they like to be “normal” just so they fit in. The reason they don't fit in is that they aren't like everyone else following each other around. So honestly I don't really think there is such thing as normal. We are all different in many ways and if normal was a thing then everyone would be the same. We define normal as something we see every day. It is something that everyone wants to be or they want to just fit in Normal? I don't think that anyone is "normal". That is just a saying that people use to say they are better than someone else that may not have a slower mind, looks different, or sounds different.
How you define normal is a hard topic because being normal I would think is being yourself because no one is normal if you look up normal in dictionary it will say not abnormal which is what we don’t know people are different normal I would feel is acting the way that you do when your calm and peaceful because you friends sometimes say when your drunk or if you just have a lot of energy dude be normal and I think that statement is your normal self when you don’t have a lot of energy or your not drunk just act normal. Everybody has a different normal I think because everybody acts differently when they don’t have a lot of energy or is not drunk. Some people when their calm is talkative just having a normal conversation and some people are really quiet when they don’t have a lot of energy or is not drunk. I think that this is just a theory about the word normal you can’t really define normal because I like I said before everybody had their own normal I think. When I think of the word normal I think of a game difficulty not about a person.
I dont define normal, once you put normal towards something in my opinion you are judging them. Even though people would like there to be a normal because they think that if there is a normal the whole world would come to a peace and would work on the track and cycle. If everybody acted the same there would be no america there would no fun it would all be boring because everybody would acts the same speak the same. There are somethings that you can define as normal on what the human does, such as how they walk there actions and what they do. Some people would say oh that not normal or he's not normal. That also can means other things as the person having mental problems or something else is holding him from acting a certain way. There is a lot of people that think normal is the way to act but if you look around the world you can tell that there is not really normal because everybody is different and everyone is unique. Even though some humans will try to be like someone else and try to fit in i feel as if everyone should do there own thing not try to fit in but just be happy with what they are doing with their life.
In my opinion, defining normal is not possible. Everyone is different. Everyone has their own unique traits and personalities. Yes, some people are more "level-headed" but even they are "weird" or "different" in their own special ways. People who are not "crazy" are not normal. People who are "crazy" are not normal. We each have a different opinion on what it is like to be considered normal. You might look at yourself as a normal human being but others probably think you are the exact opposite of normal. You don't truly know anyone well enough to consider them "normal" as someone has said, if you know someone who is normal, you don't know them well enough. That is true because you don't know what they do in their free time, you don't know the thoughts that go through their head. That is why I do not think that it is possible to define the word normal because nobody would get it right because it is different for everyone.
