How will you “carry the fire” during the next five years? Write 300+ words.
I would like to start by saying I know right now that at some point I will not carry the fire. Perhaps for a short period or for a moment but there will be a point where I will certainly not carry the fire. I will do my very best to make sure that I do carry the fire as long and as well as I possibly can. There will still come a day where I forget to carry the fire and I will do my very best to put out the flames that burn me when I do forget. I am enlisted currently and if I follow my current path and do what I currently want to do I will be carrying the fire overseas, for a country, for freedom, for my own self gain and sacrifice. I will be working towards the goal of maintaining the liberties we possess but I will not forget to be kind, forgiving, resentful, and most of all, courageous and humble. Some people think what I have decided to do is hard. Others think I could be doing better. Between all of this I work towards finding a way to make my life and those who support me better. I work towards making those who think I could do better proud. I know I can’t please everybody but I can certainly make their world a better place and that is what meaning I have derived from my life. That is my purpose. To enjoy what I have, and to give more than I take as I live out my finite and hopefully very important life. There is lots of work to be done and I will always remember my core lessons, important life moments that made me this way and I am very happy to say Mr. Christiansen's class has made me realize how much more I could be doing. He taught me more than any other teacher I know about maturity, respect, patience, and work ethic. I value everything I’ve been taught but I am particularly fond of his teachings and I hope he gets to see the great work I plan on doing. One more person lifting me up so that I can be in a position to help others when they’re no longer there to lift me.

I think the movie One who flew over the cuckoo's nest showed me how to carry the fire the best. It showed me that even when you're not right, it's okay. It showed me that when it feels like people are just trying to hurt you and bring you down, that there are so many more people who want to bring you up and make you feel good and happy about yourself. It has shown me to always be my best self and always try and make others happy. When McMurphy took all those men on the boat and made them notice how beautiful life is and how wonderful a time they could have, he showed me that no matter what life throws at you, or what obstacles are in your way, overcome that and be kind and do things for others, not just yourself. This movie has taught me a lot about building up trust and building friendships with the most unlikely people. I think this movie just shows that there are awesome people, and there are horrifically terrible people out there too. -zoie hite

Whose senior showcase informed me the most.
Gracie’s senior showcase informed me the most because I didn’t know anything about phlebotomy until she presented and told us some facts about phlebotomy. She also talked about the different sizes of needles that you use when giving blood or donating. She also talked about how it’s good to eat and drink before you donate blood.

Zoie’s senior showcase inspired me I guess because she talked about makeup and she did someone’s makeup while she was presenting. Seeing her do that makes me want to become better at putting makeup on me or someone else.
How will you “carry the fire” during the next fifteen years? Write 300+ words.
In the next fifteen years I plan on either re-enlisting or starting a business of some kind. I want to be able to help people and giving them a job is one of the ways I know will work best. There I can be more than a boss, a leader, and a member of a team. I want to be able to convey the lessons I have learned to them through leadership and by setting examples for every generation that follows mine. In the next fifteen years I may decide to have kids or other very hard life decisions but what matters most is that I ensure my friends and I carry the fire. I want to make sure that kindness is spread more often than hate. I want to make sure that people are compassionate more so than they are greedy or self absorbed. I want to teach people these lessons but many must be learned on their own. I personally believe someone who has nothing and has been through a lot has more character than someone who has had everything and doesn’t know what they have because they have never lost it. I also believe that we can’t judge these people because that is simply where life put them. Knowing this we just can’t judge people if we are to be carrying the fire and we should put ourselves into positions outside of our comfort zones to show our friends, family, coworkers, and everyone who may know us or see what we are doing that we carry the fire. If one good voice can be heard in a wave of discontent that ripple will spread across every mind in that wave. So my goal will be to set examples for everyone I meet because those people will start to set examples as well and that ripple will one day be its own wave.
I do horribly think I will carry the fire in the next five years. I do so believe that I will carry it and pass on the fire to many people that I will meet and endure in college. I will add to this question and answer it right away. I will carry the fire past the five years and try to pass it and carry it till I pass away with my old wisdom and maturity. I do believe that when I carry the fire in my many years ahead of me I will be able to possess the fire and make it so I do not just carry it but I go ahead and live in it, enjoy it, and spread the fire to everyone I meet. The wisdom and thought I get from carrying the fire throughout life will be a crucial thing to have in my life as the world is becoming more chaotic and people are just going crazy and need the fire to get their life straight and figured out. The next question is that how will I carry the fire throughout the next 15 years and that is simple and I have stated before, I will do my honorable best on trying to carry the fire till I reach an age of my passing. For the question that is asking me which narrative showed you how to "carry the fire" best? would have to be probably 2 movies in my opinion. The first move would be Gran Torino because of the fact that there are so many people that are near the same as Walter in the film. I do believe there have been many different people in families that are like that. It showed me that even the most stubborn headed, silent type, people can change their beliefs on people if they don't just read the book by its cover. The second film that we did narrative nartoligy on would have to be the 3:10 to the umma. I do believe that that film has made and will make a good type of impression on the young kids showing how hard someone will work for there family and how there will be risks on taking for the family even though there is a chance that you might be killed. Not to mention the type of loyalty that a few men could have toward one other man that is a slower shooter than your self.

I think that the narratives as a whole gave me insight into what we need to do as a group to make this world a better place and the most insightful narrative we watched was “One who flew over the cuckoo’s nest”. It made me understand that no matter what is happening or who is putting people down we should do what we can to show people they have a voice, that they have personal freedom and the right to be happy. The right to be a better person. We shouldn’t let those in authority put them down and we shouldn’t allow those with less power to bring them down either. They showed me that everyone has flaws and yet everyone can be a leader. Everyone has an obligation to carry the fire and we shouldn’t shun those who don’t but show them why carrying the fire isn’t just their best option but their only real option. You can’t live a fulfilled life judging others the entire time, if you do you’ve successfully wasted a lifetime of your own but also hurt or damaged those of someone else and that isn’t fair. See, that is why we are obligated to carry the fire. If we do not, we don’t just hurt ourselves. We need to carry the fire and the world will be better for it. We can’t see people as different, we need to understand that everyone is unique and special. There are stigmas attached to these words that we must get rid of. I think that this narrative is what really made me realize this. Hopefully one day we value one another more than we value ourselves. The world would be better for it.
Whose senior showcase informed you the most?
I could say the senior showcase Travis did inform me the most because it showed me how different states do different things. An example is how there’s only an city/village that only speaks Spanish and nothing else you the houses are very experienced. Also how I find it interesting how people with different cultures do different things. An example is how Travis only went to an only private school and you can only have these amount of good grades or you will be enrolled for that school and have to find a different school to go too. I kinda think it’s unfair for the students because what if there’s something going on at home and it’s in the way for getting your grades up. Or also if there's and someone you need to talk too you’re kinda on you’re on and have to find a way to figure it out yourself which is kinda unfair because you should have the right to ask for help instead of having to do it by yourself.
What senior showcase inspired me ?.
I would have the showcase that inspired me was Cole’s showcase and talking about how his dads had the struggle of becoming a K9 officer and have got to get there own K9 dog and the process of training the dog and being comfortable around other dogs and people also. I thought it was kinda neat that a K9 dog should be able to sniff all those kinda drugs just like a snap of a finger. I would also have to say it was interesting how you only have to spend a 1 penny for having the dog after you and you’re K9 dog retire. It was cool having the chance to listen to Cole and getting the understanding of how difficult and stressing it is for his dog Maverick and also his dad for risking their lives every day for us to have safe community and environment.
Five years from now I will be "carrying the fire" by being a laboratory assistant. Or a phlebotomy technician. I will see myself helping other people and hopefully help saving peoples lives at some point. I could also see myself helping at RFKC (Royal Family Kids Camp). Which is a camp for troubled abused and neglected kids. This year will be my third year helping. This year I get to be a guide which you have to be 18 for. There are about 55-60 people on staff working for the whole week. There are about 50 kids that come each week. Camp is a place where the kids can feel like being a kid because some of them have been abused so badly. The last two years, I have been a GIT. Which is a guide in training. We as GITS got to do everything, hung out with the kids, we were apart of the play/skit that was part of the bible story. During the week, we had special guests come in for the kids such as people from the zoo brought in reptiles so the kids could hold them, Dakota snow which was a snowcone company from Sioux Falls and we rented a jet boat so the kids could go tubing and water skiing. The whole point of camp is to let the kids have the best week of their lives. This camp is a life-changing experience for me. Because seeing the kids and the different backgrounds and where they have come from is amazing. This is where I see myself in the next five years doing what I love. Seeing other people's lives change makes me feel good about myself knowing that I was apart of that opportunity.
I think the narrative that showed how to carry the fire the most was 3 10 to Yuma because one of the main characters was struggling really hard to keep care of his family and he would do anything to keep his family from becoming homeless and when he got the offer to transport the meanest dude in America he offered to do it because he would get his money and he wanted to be respected by his family and show his kids that’s it’s not all about money it’s about doing what’s right because he had a chance to give up and the railroad man told him that he could give up and still get paid but he wanted to show his son that it didn’t matter he just wanted to do the right thing and if you do the right thing you will get respected as a human being because in life it’s not all about the money. Now if you think about the other end of the spectrum the bad guy he was a bad guy but he also had boundary that he didn’t want to cross and it shows that even the worst guys aren’t all that bad because he could of just let the ambush people kill the good guys but he saved them because he just started to respect dan even for all that he did for his family and I feel that you can’t shoot and kill a guy that would do anything for his family and when that rain cloud went over the town he probably that he wanted to go back because he got water to feed his cattle but he wanted to get the bad guy on train to Yuma because he wanted to gain respect from his family because his son didn’t really believe in him. What I take away from this movie is that it’s not all about the money it’s about doing the right thing and if you do the right thing you might also get rewarded.
Which narrative (that we studied this semester) showed you how to “carry the fire” best? Write 300+ words.
The Narrative that I think showed me how to carry the fire more and showed me more was One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. I think this one did the most is because you got to see into different peoples lives and see what actually happens and how people feel about things. It showed how some people can just devote their lives to hiding the best way they can, and they can do it just because no one cares what he has to say. But when one person actually shows interest in him. (Even tho it was just because of his height and strength) He enjoyed it and started trusting someone at least. Then it showed the stages of him actually getting to trust him more and more. It was probably the first real person he has talked to in a while. But the first time he said something it was thank you for him receiving something given to him. Everyone like him being there because he gave their days the thing that it needed, some change. He broke them all out just to go fishing and they all enjoyed it and that showed me how to just relax sometimes and just not think about what happens until it does. But my favorite part of the movie is the night they were about to leave. When the just started leaving the window but the turned around to stay for Billy so he could have a good night. But in the end, it cost him basically living his life because then he got the surgery done so he couldn't do anything for himself. But Cheif realized that Murphy was already dead inside and he was just a body walking around with no soul. So I think the movie had the biggest impact on me was One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest because it showed that no matter how small of something you do it can be appreciated.

I think that the most informative senior showcase was Travis’s because he showed me how life in South Dakota is different than in other places. He showed me that other people have vastly different interests and that people can be much more unique than I thought before. Obviously everyone has different opinions and interests but I had not realized in the same way reality hits someone after something life changing happens that people live outside South Dakota. The world is huge. There are billions of us. We spend most of our lives making this world a worse place and there are problems everywhere you go. This is not a really big issue because this means that there is a reason to carry the fire everywhere we go but not everyone does this. He talked about homeless people and minimum wages as well as the living conditions and addictions of a populous due to the actions of a few who did not carry the fire. Those actions spread, bad leadership spreads bad ethics. Travis explained that he went on a hiking trip by himself through a path that most people would not want to travel and he did this to make himself a better person. Not everyone is willing to do something hard to accomplish something self satisfying or beneficial to themselves and others. I appreciate that. I can’t say what I learned about Travis may be all that important to me personally but knowledge is everything and it opened my worldview a little. It gave me understanding. It made me realize I wasn’t the only one on this planet or in this room and that there are things going on all over the world that I don’t know about. Obviously I knew that before but it hits you right in the face sometimes, it’s the reality of it all.
Which narrative showed you how to carry the fire best? I would have to say, Gran Torino. I say that because it showed me how to be respectful to other people and stick up and help your friend's or family. An example was when that young girl was with all those guys and they were being mean to her and when they grandpa showed up he showed they what was up got them to quit picking on that girl. The only part that I did not care for was at the beginning when the girl and boy disrespected there grandma at her funeral and the grandpa did not like that at all. The grandpa also shows that he cares for the kids when the boy needed tools for work and he went to the store with the kid and bought everything the kid needed to be successful at work, and the gang jumped him one day after work and the grandpa found out about cause the kid didn't have his tools anymore and the grandpa fixed that problem. Whose senior showcase inspired you the most? I would have to say that Noah's was the most inspiring to me because we got to learn stuff about a scooter and what his thoughts were about that scooter. We also learned of some of the stunts he did on the scooter, as in doing a wheelie on the scooter... 😜 🛵
For the next 5 years, I’m planning to carry the fire after high school to college. I'm planning on being a Vet Tech or a Pharmacy tech. I got offered a full-time job this summer and C&C manufacturing company. They work on making a medal for other companies on big machines. The things we do there are deburring, sanding, counting a certain amount into toats. I also got accepted by working during the day during school hours by taking a class called careers which you also get paid in. My plan was to work full time then go to college at Southeast Tech while working part-time at C&C. I choose to work for a vet tech because I love working with animals mostly dogs and to try to make them feel better. My other choice was Pharmacy tech because it didn't seem like a bad job to do. When I go to Southeast Tech I want to achieve on doing is to work hard and study to pass all my classes, Make friends the best way I can and not get stressed out so fast and breathe knowing that I can do it. My biggest worry is not knowing the topic and get lost in the class which means it will be a lot more stressful and a long year for me. I'm a person that’s not social and quiet also don't like asking questions to teachers. I also hope that everything will go smooth and go as planned. Still planning to come back to see my dogs during the holidays and weekends plus STI is in Sioux Falls so it’s really close to my house anyways. I'm going to Carry the Fire the best way I can by doing the best I can and let life take me wherever I go.
I have no idea where I'll be in the next 5 years which is a very scary yet exciting thought to have. I am kind of afraid of my future because I really struggled through school and got a lot of extra help but I know that in the real world after graduation I won't get the same type of help. In a job, I need to learn how to learn faster than I do right now or else it will be very hard to get by and I am afraid and stressed out by this thought. I think carrying the fire will be my best shot at being successful in life because if I carry the fire people will look up to me, follow me, listen to me, and for the most part respect me. Often times people don't always like other who carry the fire because they feel they need to get off their high horse and act like everyone else when in reality everyone else isn't always carrying the fire. To carry the fire means to assist people and help out when they need it and lend a helping hand to those in need. In the next 5 years, I will try in all aspects of my life to carry the fire and keep myself motivated. Thinking about my future is one thing that really stresses me out but it is also something that is completely necessary to do in order to move forward and be successful in whatever is to come. I will carry the fire by providing and helping people at work who are struggling. I can pick up shifts for people in a job or work harder than the person next to me for the same pay in a job until someone in charge notices and gives me a better position in that job. I will look back on high school and remember what it means to carry the fire back when I first learned about it. The nest 15 years of my life are even more stressful to think about cause I have no idea where I'll be and all I want in my life is achievements. Sometimes I have a hard time with motivating myself to even do anything so I'll carry the fire just by motivating myself to do so. It will be really hard because sometimes the hardest part about my day is not being lazy and getting through it and by carrying the fire and providing for myself completely within 15 years. I don't want to be the way that I am now in 15 years but the person I want to be but that all takes time.

what can I do in the next five years or what I'm going to do in the next 5 years is what I really don't know but I'm going to try and carry the fire and make everything worthwhile and make others feel better about them selfs and try to bring everyone up while I try to make more future more clear on what I'm going to do with my life but I'm hoping what I'm going to do is to become a power lineman and try to bring back power to others in natural disasters so that they can go back to there normal lives so that can carry the fire, as well as I, will be doing.to bring onto the next 15 years I'm hoping that to carry the fire id have like a family or something so I got something to be proud of to raise some kids on some good morals or something like that but other than that I don't know what I would do to carry the fire then go with the flow and see how I could help others in the future.I'm going to carry the fire in the future by having a fast car tho. my favorite presentation was coles Pederson because I thought it was interesting and it showed what his dad dos for a job hanging out with dogs and showing how he keeps people in jail safe and how they give him a car just to ride out with his dog hofer noah
The senior showcase that informed me the most was Cole's because I didn't know much about K-9 dogs. His presentation informed me a lot about drug dogs and how they are so intelligent. Personally, I just thought that police use German Shepherds for drugs and other things. I didn't know that they also use Labradors, Malinois, Bloodhound, Beagle, Dutch Shepherd, Dobermann, German Shorthaired pointer and so many more. I also had no idea that it only takes 3-4 weeks to train the police dog for explosives. I find this topic amazing because I don't think we could do some things without dogs.
The senior showcase that inspired me was Zoie's because she showed us how to do a makeup tutorial. I didn't know some of the makeup tips that she showed or told us about makeup. That each and every look is different.
Whose senior showcase informed you the most?
I liked Travis Senior showcase because it was really in interesting on learning about Colorado. I love the look of the mountains and the scenery he showed us. It would be really cool to see all the places they have there that we don’t. The thing that really shocked me is that the traffic in Colorado is really backed up in the gas prices are really expensive compared to us. I love experiencing new things and learning new things.
I don't know how I am going to carry the fire for the next 5 years. I can carry the fire in the next 5 years by helping my grandpa on his farm because it is going to be hard for him because of the loss of his father and my great grandpa. My great grandpa was the one who owned most of the land that we farm on so we will lose some land because it has to be split up evenly to him and his two brothers. Like right now we have too much cattle for the small amount of land that we have and it is going to get even smaller. I try to help him out right now as much as I can with chorse and help to fix equipment that breaks down because he is not in the best shape and I can get into the small places and he doesn't have much feeling in his finger. Right now is calving season so I am very busy with that because you have to catch the calves and tag them and the bulls we have to band them. You constantly have to be checking the cows to see if they are close to having one. I say we go out about every 2 Hours to check them even in the dark. We have to constantly check them because if the calf is coming out wrong you have to try to do everything you can to help to keep it alive because that is our profit. For a calf to come out properly the two front hooves will stick out first then the head and finally, they will just fall out. Like last week a cow was having a calf and only one of the legs and the head were out and in that case, the mom can push the calf out, we had to push the whole calf back in and get both legs so they are correct on coming out and pull the calf out by hand. I don't know if I am going to carry the fire by going to college. but I am not sure if I am going to go. I might just go straight into the workforce.

How to carry the fire throughout life. To carry the fire means to take action or be the one who is in charge of what you do in your life so what you should do throughout your life is to be the one that thake control and becomes the leader and i think that it is something that everyone should do they should carry there fire. You should always carry your fire with determination and confidence through the next 10 or 15 years of your life you should always try to carry your fire up high and do it with confidence and pride in life.
Which native shoes us to carry the fire. This is hard to say because all of the narratives we saw showed us how to carry the fire there was sling blade were karl worked really hard to turn his life around and help out frank and his family so that they could be happy. Then in 3 10 to yuma Dan evans carries the fire determined to help save this family and be looked at as a hero by his sons also in life of pi he carries the fire the fire by surviving in a boat for almost a year and he also did it with a tiger and that took determination and courage to make that long journey. Then in the lion king Simba carried the fire to lead his people as king and save his home land from Scare then the one who flew over the kho kho nest mcmurphy is a rebel that helps light a fire in everyone's hearts that determines them to stand up nurse ratched for her being really strict and over controlling he shows them how to live there own lives again by being a leader or carrying the fire. So in conclusion all of the narratives that we watch this year have all showed us that we need to carry the fire take charge and be a leader by carrying the fire because that is what happen in all of the stories someone important takes charge and ends up being a leader and helping out there friends.
My favorite narrative that we worked on or studied this year was the Slingblade movie we watched. That movie has so many important signs to life and you really have to be a mature audience to realize it. I think one of the biggest signs it shows is just because you do something illegal or against the law; does not automatically make you a bad person. Like when Karl killed Doyle I didn't see it as him being bad. I see it as him doing Frank and Linda a favor. I think his main intention was to kill Karl to protect Frank and Linda who he really loved and were important to him. Another important sign it resembles is that age or differences doesn't change things. Like Karl and Frank were best friends and did everything together and Karl is way older than Frank. In the next 5 years, I will carry the fire by working hard and doing my best. And that goes for everything. I am going to carry the fire by building vehicles and going to car meets and being social with the people of same interests as me. And the car culture is such a growing group of people there is always someone new to meet and people who have very nice things that you enjoy as well. I will just carry the fire by living day to day and just trying to be the best me and try to make others lives as fun and enjoyable as I possibly can. Success is a major thing to me and I am a very hard, determined worker and I love money so it's a plus plus. Lol!
