1. To me, I think the best part of Sling Blade was when Karl and Frank were sitting down by the forest and down by the river, and Karl tells Frank that he loves him and thanks him for being such a good friend. I liked this part because it shows that we don't have to judge anyone for having a disability or for being "different". Also, we should remember the way you treat someone, is the way they will always remember you and never forget how you made that person feel.
Keisha Felcher. 1. To me the best part of Slingblade is when Karl decides to go back to the house and kill Doyle so that Linda and Frank don’t have to keep up with his crap. I like this scene because he’s getting rid of the man that taunts Linda and Frank, the two people that Karl cares about. 2. My favorite character is Karl because he did do some bad things and got put in a hospital. But then he got released and formed this special bond with a boy and possibly his mother. He also changed and has a good heart. He cares about what happens to the boy and his mother. Doyle the guy that Frank’s mother is dating is a bad man. He verbally abuses Linda and Frank. He even pushed around Linda and might even do the same to Frank.
The best part of sling blade was not the plot or the characters but rather the lesson behind it. We regularly belittle people or at least I see it happen regularly. Those same people who know what it is like to be belittled often are some of the nicest people in the world either because of it or simply because they are that way. My favorite character is Karl but I think that the most interesting character in the movie is not Karl, it is Frank. Frank is obviously upset about his hand that he's been dealt in life. The thing that makes it interesting though is that he tries to help him and his mother but isn't yet capable of getting them out of that situation. The abuse is also affecting his self esteem and not giving him what he needs to grow into a better human being. It is interesting to see how kids with only a single or no parental figures grow up, but it is better than having someone like Doyle raise you. There are several good parts in the movie though, I liked all of the hidden symbolism and whether or not it was intentional it enhanced the movie. Billy Bob Thornton is a very intelligent director and actor. I enjoyed the scenes with Doyle because they were intense and I enjoyed the scenes with Frank because like the name suggests, Karl can be very honest about his thoughts on Doyle and life. I personally believe sad movies like this one are the best.
Riley Larson 1. The best part of Sling Blade in my own honest opinion is when Karl and Frank become friends. The reason behind this is because the movie would not have gone the same at all if that event did not take place. There were so many things that happened after Frank and Karl became friends. Like they played together all the time. They really enjoyed spending time together and having each others company. Frank even offered Karl a place to stay at night so that he wouldn't just have to roam the streets aimlessly hoping that he'll be safe throughout the night. The last thing that I am going to mention about this specific topic is that Frank and Linda may have never been freed of Doyle's wrath if it were not because of Karl. 2. Karl is my favorite character in the film. The reason Karl is my favorite character in the film is that he is very loving and caring and those are very good traits to have. Some people are evil and rude in the film but Karl never let's them knock him down or feel down about it he just brushes it to the side and keeps being the good person he is.
To me the best part of sling blade is that it tell a good true story and then they help and person that has been hurt his whole life to get back out in the comically and try to live a normal life. like meeting new people making friend and learn how to be out in cummicatiy. when he got out he was okay at first and made lots of friend like the gay guy and frank and doyale but he was not much of a friend to karl.
To me, I think the best part or my favorite part is that when Karl says that he will be friends with Frank because Frank has a hard time making friends and Karl doesn't have any friends because he was in lockup. My favorite character has to be Frank because he wants to be Karls friend even though he knows Karl did something bad. How Frank sticks up for people he loves for instance when Doyle makes fun of Karl and he tries to yell at Doyle but tells him to shut up. When Franks mom pushes Doyle and Doyle punches her back. Frank started throwing anything he can get his hands on at Doyle Because of what he did to his mom. Then Frank yells at him to get out of his house and Doyle leaves. -David Finn
hurd 1. To me, the best part of this movie is listening to how Karl is around people that are nice to him compared to people that think he is worth nothing. It is cool to see because of the fact that he killed Doyle to save Frankie and his mother from the evil he put on the family of taking over and thinking he is a ruler of the household when he is drunk constantly. It's really nice to see he thought it was nice to see his new family did care about him. That is the best part.
2. My favorite character has to be Karl for sure. Karl has done a bad thing, yes but the amazing part about him is that I can see that he is perfectly fine with being out in the world with people that he would trust after they trust them. It is truly amazing that he is such a nice person not meaning no harm against people. With the heart he has he choose to show that he would be a good father to his friend Frankie.
In the beginning, Sling blade is we got to experience how it looked like in the mental hospital. It was all quiet and people seemed not happy and very upset that there in the situation there are in. Then we saw Karl by the window looking out and just there sitting nice and peaceful. Then this man named Charles Bushman which slowly walked out and took a chair that someone had their feet at and took it from him. So meaning he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. But my favorite part of the movie is when Karl met the boy named Frank and his family and how Karl really cared about them. In the beginning, Frank and Karl kind of connection with each other take the garbages out. Then Frank invited him to play football with them but Karl said he wasn't very good on playing. Frank said you don't have to be good at it. Another part about what was so great is Karl opened up to Frank's mother about being in a mental hospital. Also how he loved when she made biscuits for him during the middle of the night. Quoted Karl said “You’ve been really good to me” Lastly the part is when he gave his old books and hugged him and gave him a bookmarker that said, “You will do great”. Then Karl went off to killed Doyle so he wants to hurt that family again. I would say my favorite character is the main character, Karl Childers. I say that because I feel bad that he has a disability he lives with and dealing with people that are disrespectful and calling him retarded. He’s been living in a barn his whole childhood in a hole to sleep in with little food with his mom reading him the Bible that he could understand some then couldn't find the parts that his parent told him. Also, his dad gave him his brother that he had killed. He has a really good heart he was trying to save his mother from being tortured and even offered to mow his father's yard that doesn’t care for him at all. Also did a really good thing by being there for Frank. Some dads don't even play with their children because of too busy working or trying to do nothing when they get home. Like Karl played football and tossed Frank the football to make him feel happy. So the conclusion I would say that my favorite part is Karl caring for that family.
1. The best part to me about the movie is when Karl and Frank to the Forest and talks about there personal life and their past history. Another part I like is when Karl and Frank just spend time together like when Karl and Frank play football together with Frank friends. It shows me that you can become friends with anyone even if they have a disability or being different than everyone else. What I got out of watching the movie Sling Blade is you can become friends with whoever you want to become friends it shouldn't matter. If they are different and other people if they care about you and wanna be your friend that should only matter. 2. My favorite character would Karl because he shows me you can forgive anyone and give them a second chance in life even if they did you wrong. an example is when Karl forgave his dad for what he did to him during his childhood. Karl could of not forgive him and carried on with his life and things could be gotten worse for Karl if he didn't forgive him. Karl show's me if you can be different than everyone else and carry about people for who they are. People would knock down Karl and treat him with no respect at all and Karl would just back up and get back up and like nothing happen and strive and become a better person.
My favorite part about sling blade was when Karl stood up for the kid and grabbed Doyle's hand. I thought that that was good because he stood up for the kid and showed that he wasn't ganna let Doyle treat him like that. My favorite character from this movie was probably Karl if had I had to choose because I thought it was good when Karl became friends with Frank and stood up for him at times. They also had fun times together, played football and him and Karl liked to sit on a rock and talk and learn things about eachother. People would knock down Karl and treat him with no respect and Karl would just back up and get up and like nothing happen and strive and become a better person. Some dads don't even play with their children because of too busy working or trying to do nothing when they get home. Like Karl played football and tossed Frank the football to make him feel happy. So the conclusion I would say that my favorite part is Karl caring for that family.

my favorite part is when Karl is telling Frank he loves him and he's proud of him and being the father figure that he's always wanted was my favorite part and when he tells the gay guy he won't go to hell because he to go to go there because he's been too nice and too kind to others making his eyes open and feel more accepted . karl is my favorite and he changed a lot he used to not be able to talk to people without the light on and he completely changed for the better and he wasn't scared to talk to anyone then he could talk to anyone because he got over his fear. his whole person around for the better and he's just my favorite character
What i think is my favorite part of sling blade. I would say that my favorite part is when Karl starts to really turn his life around by working hard at his job and also really connecting with franke by like being a friend or father figure to him by being there for him. Another way that carl turns his life around is by realizing that his father is not worth trying to make proude or worth trying to kill or get rid of if he just going to be sitting in a chair and that is were that i think that he get some closure in that part of his life and moves on and that is a part that i really liked.
Who is my favorite character in the movie. I would have to say that it would be Karl and i pick him because he teaches us that you can turn your life around if you work for it and try hard enough agentes all odds. Another reason is he may have killed people but he only did it as defence to protect the people he loved he also never seemed like he was ever a person that would repeatedly keep killing people he seems like someone who is caring respectful of others
My favorite part about Sling Blade is when I realized that Karl was going to kill the boyfriend and when I found was that when the kid went to his spot that he likes to chill out and be by himself. Karl gave him all of his books and I was questioning why but then it hit when the kid pulled the bookmarker out and it said you will be happy and I was thinking to myself how is he going to do it and when but I realized after that. That’s why he wanted Vaughan to take the kid and the mother the night that he was going to do it so they didn’t see him kill him. I know this sounds wrong to say this is my favorite but it is because Carl cares about the little kid a lot because they gave him a place to live and he had nowhere else to go if he didn’t meet that little kid and his mother was ok with it from the beginning my mom would probably have said no because she doesn’t want a stranger to be living in the house. My favorite character would have to be Karl because he doesn’t seem that danger in the first place when I first saw I thought to myself what could this guy possibly have done. When he gets out of the hospital it's not like he went on a rampage he was wondering where he could go because his dad didn’t want anything to do with him. He got a job and he met a little kid and help him out I think he was a good guy but he cared about the little and when the little was in stress because of the boyfriend carl wanted to make him happy again so he killed him just to make him happy. In recap, he’s my favorite character because he cared about people and when they weren’t happy he did something.
1.) To me, the best part of Slingblade is when Frank and his mother Linda invite Karl to stay with them. This was the beginning of a really nice and trusting relationship. Karl gave Frank a father figure and he gave Linda company. He did his best to listen and understand and help. It shows how people can change. How people should be open-minded about everyone and everything. Karl has a disability and he has had a rough past yet they opened their home to him and welcomed him with open arms. 2.) My favorite character is Frank. He was very nice and very open-minded with Karl. He didn't judge Karl for a second and he gave him a fresh start in a way. He put trust into him and he looked up to him despite Karl having a disability and being in the mental place for what he did.
My favorite part of the movie when Karl is getting out of the institution and meets Frank and get a job. This is my favorite part of the movie because he it shows a lot for karl on he just get out he meets a new friend which is Frankie. I feel as if-if the scene of the movie could have gone multiple different ways. If karl would have never met frank he would've wound back into the institution. It shows a lot for karl too because it shows that he still is there not just an institutionalized from being locked away in an insane asylum for the majority of his life and know is going back to the new world which when he was younger wasn't even exposed to the world as a little kid. Even though karl isn't fully cable of everything and doesn't really know how to act in an everyday manner. Karl will always will put his full force when he puts effort to things, he would rather do it the right away then doing badly. I see as Karl getting released as a new beginning for him, he almost makes a new family from when he is released.
I would have to say the best part of Sling Blade is when Karl was offered a job to fix small engines. This makes me happy and makes feel like there is still hope in the world for people. You see so many people nowadays with no job and homeless because they are too lazy to work and want everything handed to them. It was nice to see someone work and make money by doing something he loves. Karl is definitely my favorite character because he goes after what he wants and does it to help others and does what is right and does like to or want to harm anyone unless he has to.
1. To me the best part of sling blade is when Karl was talking to the girl in college writing a newspaper before he got out of the institution. The reasoning for that is just the setting in the scene. It is really eye catching and makes you want to watch the movie more. I thought it was a good scene to start off the movie and get people's attention so they actually watched the movie. Over all the movie is a really good movie and has a lot of good scenes so it makes it difficult to pick a favorite scene. But the way the movie plays out from the interview with the girl i feel like shows how karl really is and who he is as a person. Trying to do good and make the right decisions.
2. My favorite character would have to be karl just because who he is. He’s the main character and plays every role really good. I also like Karls background. Like where he came from because it shows how he grew up and what he did to survive. Karl has been through a lot and for him to come out as he did i think is a really good example on how people can change. The way people treat him and the way he deals with it i think is a good example on how people should be in the world.
I think the best part of Sling Blade is when Frank is talking to Karl and Karl tells Frank that he loves him and he tells him that a boy shouldn't talk the way that he does. This is my favorite scene because it showed how simple Karl and Frank's worlds were. Karl didn't have the mental capacity to understand the world and Frank was too young to, but they did understand that they loved each other so that is all that really matters to them and that is all that really had to matter. Frank is my favorite character because he has seen enough of the world to be wise but is young enough to be pure so he's level headed, but still a child. -Joseph Wardlow
I think that my favorite character is Frank. He doesn't judge Karl right off the bat like everyone else seems to do, he becomes his friend and trusts him even though Karl told him his past. Frank is kinda lonely and I guess you could say he knows what its like to have a father figure not care for you or want you around all that much. Frank isn't scared of Karl, he lets him know where he lives, lets him help with the laundry, and he even helps Karl by asking his momma if Karl can stay in the garage with them. Frank is probably the sweetest boy, and I don't think that even after Karl killed Doyle, that Frank or his momma had anything against Karl. I think they both know that he did what was best to protect them. He was kind to them, Frank really looked up to him, he did more things with him than Doyle ever would.
