There are many forms of higher power or authority in our world. For example, our country has a president but our country is the only country with a president. Other countries have leaders or Prime Minister, or different types of leaders. My parents are of higher authority than me also; just as police officers. My parents and our president benefit us mainly in a better way having authority over us. The president tries to benefit our country in positive ways and guide us to be successful in our own country and be the best we can. Just alongside with our president, our parents try to get us set up for the real world and guide us through life and make sure we can do the best we can and be as successful as possible. The police, on the other hand, they have authority over the humans of the world and if you are dealing with the police, on the other hand, they aren't out to help us too much if they are writing us up tickets. But we can't only look at that in a bad way if the police are dealing with us in a traffic way, they are trying to benefit us and make sure we are doing the right thing to make the streets as safe as possible and prevent accidents. Those are just a few types of authority that I stated. There are many more, for example, prison guards, lifeguards at the pool, and so on so forth. There are multiple other ones than this but I am not going to go on to name everyone. People of higher power aren't always here to benefit you, but also not here to bring you down any. Some are here to make sure you stay on track and others are here to benefit you and make sure you go as far as possible and as successful as possible at the same time. When i think of authority i think of the law and people that are above me in the world. It make me mad sometimes because they think people can control me in the world and i hate when people. No One she be overlook in the world and say that your not good enough and i feel like when someone does not have authority they get hurt by the other people in the world. I am 18 i feel like i shouldn't have to be bossed around like a little child and i should have more authority but the law doesn't do that. I wish everyone had the same amount of authority as like govermer in the white house. I think we would get alot of stuff solved in the world if we did that to all the people Tony halbersma -helms 12 pd .4
Some forms of authority that exist in my life are my job right now with my two bosses. I work at Oh My Cupcakes in Sioux Falls. I think it's good to have authority in life because if we didn't, I feel like no one would have any sort of role model to look up to. Also, I think it helps to have authority so that we have a set of rules to follow so that we don't get into trouble. Also, it kind of feels good to know you can have someone that you can trust and look up to if you ever need help or advice. So this is why I believe it's good that we have authority. -Hood pd.4
I don't think authority is just by our parents its by people who older than you and may have more power than you. There could be good authority and bad authority it just depends on what you think is good and bad. How Nurse Ratched has authority over everybody in there. Like when McMurphy is in the back by the nurses she talks total authority over him and tells him to get out. Authority is like law enforcement and referees and umpires and teachers. I don't think authority is harmful all the time but it can be if there is too much authority. Finn
Some forms of authority exist in my life. Which are my mother and my dad because when I live under their roof I have to listen to what they say because I don’t pay the bills. I don’t buy the groceries. When it becomes harmful when the person that’s in authority uses their power too much. For example when they ask you to go get them something or else you would get a punishment would be them using too much authority and then that would be bad for you especially when your young because if that is how you grow up then when your an adult anybody who asks you to do something you most likely do it because if you don’t you would think that you would get punished. I think if you are having a group discussion about your problems first you would have to be open about your problems and then you would have to trust the people around you not tell your problems but in the movie when they start yelling at each other about the problems that they have is not helping them because if they are in there telling you about their problems they are probably not going to take criticism very well and that will make them feel weaker than they already are. I think a big group discussion is good in school because then we can share all the ideas that people have. When you are telling people about your problems I think it would be better to go 1 on 1 instead of a whole group just because then you don’t have to worry about the other people telling their friends or family about your story when your 1 on 1 the person that your telling the story will most likely not share it because it’s their job to help you not bring you down and share your stories.
The entirety of human civilization is built on power. Authority is required to maintain power. This passing of power has caused us to build systems of authority everywhere. Since we are young we are asking our parents for permission to do things and as soon as we reach school we ask the same to our teachers. We ask to go to the bathroom even, which is odd because no one should naturally have to ask to use the bathroom. It is interesting to say the least the way we program people to conform to authority. This programming is what allows people to do good things and bad things with that power because people follow. This is what caused the holocaust, but it is also why we got to the moon. I follow the authority of my parents, of the laws I am governed under, and I follow the authority of my Sergeant. All forms of authority are designed to keep order in society and to allow me certain freedoms. Those freedoms may empower me or oppress me but that is simply perspective. Authority is harmful only when it does not benefit society to have authority. If Hitler had not been in power Germany likely would not have attempted to systematically kill all of the Jewish people. Hitler's cult of zionism is what caused that. He was put into a position of authority and removed anyone who would not be brainwashed or at least conform to his opinion. If authority allows for non conformity in a moral way I am sure there is no harm that it can do whereas Hitler's authority allowed for nothing but conformity to that which was immoral. When people in Rwanda decided they were going to kill all of the other people they were forced to live with it is because of two conflicting authorities. The British empire forced two people at war together and when they left they were not both governed and kept under control. This was caused not by a lack of governing but a forced authority. The people have to want to be governed or they will not be. They either conform to fear or act in it and from that example I think we should have an authority not built on fear.
The types of authority I have in my life to help out with the maturity of what I have become with discipline and responsibility. My dad was the one that always disciplined me to the extent of what I did wrong. No, I don't think that all forms of discipline are designed for help or empowering you in any way shape or form. There is some authority that makes you upset, mad or angry that it happened. There is also authority that stricks in an evil way such as a drug dealer ordering people to do bad things so that he can not get out right away or little things like a robbery that may happen and the person in charge says that hey if you don't do this you will be killed by me or there might even be a black male letter sent in for a certain date to be released and read, kinda like Buth did during the Lincoln assassination. Nurse Ratched is depicted as an unhelpful very powerful woman that is not helping the people but could even be depressed her self. There even could be a factor that she would like to hear the problems of others and try to make them feel worse about themselves instead of helping them. This could be a fact that maybe she would get more money if people are going to stay there for a long time.
Authority is important because if there is no authority than people could do whatever they want, but sometimes authority takes advantage of the power they have over people. The goal of authority over people is to keep them aline and keep things running smoothly, safely and efficiently; however, sometimes the people in those powerful positions can let that power go to their heads and treat people unfairly. In my day to day life, the people who have authority over me would be the school, my managers at work, and the law and I've had my disagreements and run-ins with all three. Though I don't always agree with authority I try my best never to argue because that will only get me into more trouble. I think that it is kind of ridiculous how standing up to authority can sometimes cause someone to get into trouble because if nobody stands up to authority they can begin to take advantage of you. One time I got pulled over at night by a police officer for missing a front license plate and that cop questioned me for almost 30 minutes. I was in my work uniform and I told him that I just came from work and I was extremely respectful towards him yet he just continued to ask me a lot of questions and make me uncomfortable. I think he took advantage of his authority over me when he did this because I clearly wasn't up to no good especially because I was just coming home from work. I think there will always be authority figures in life who will let it get to their heads and push people around, and there really isn't anything that can be done about that. It's just important to always have an opionon so that you're at least able to tell if and when you're being taken advantage of, and respect athority, because most of the time they're only there to help. -Joseph Wardlow
There is a lot of authority in my life, for example, my parents, grandparents, sister, boss, and everyone alive has authority over someone or something even if it's themselves. All forms of authority empower people to either be helpful or harmful. I have authority over people at work that I'm in charge of and I have authority over myself to keep myself in line so that I'm thinking and do not do something I was not supposed to do. We have this power to help people and the world to show dominance. Everyone starts out with almost none but the more you work towards it the more you earn. It can be harmful though. For example, if its a dictatorship or just does not have meaning to it. It can be harmful. If you are doing it to hurt others or yourself then authority was not earned it was taken. The nurse is not very good at helpful authority. She has legal authority over those people in the hospital but it is forced and they are not living how they should or could be. She infringes on their happiness and doesn't even let them live a little. McMurphy has been earning their authority by showing them what it is like to try and live life. They are becoming more grateful for having him.
the authority is good for you and sometimes it bad for you .the good authority is the authority that drives you into the right path for life but sometimes when it drives you to the wrong path and doesn't help you it can harm you for your whole life .the way they show it in the movie they make them talk about their problems but not how to fix them so it keeps making them worse and worse .they authority, when they give them the option to vote there are only 20 people there, is only about 9 know that there at the mental institute making it unfair for a vote to even happen .when they make it so that person who is just a crazy outgoing partyer go to a mental hospital is the wrong path because that man didn't deserve to be in that place and for the other people the gay guy doesn't need to be in there he's scared he's going to be bashed in this movie and denies it. . R.P.mcmurphy makes it so the others don't have to be controlled and have freedoms in there life going fishing so they don't have any authority and they get to be themselves. Chief thinks that everyone has authority over him because he's been put down his whole life and he won't use his size over everyone to change this in the movie. but the nurses believed that their authority will help the patient better in the world but all there doing is pointing out is there flaws then making the others talk about when those people don't even know how to fix any of their own problems making them all seemed more flawed so that's why a lot of them stay in there and when they do talk about their problems it's just fighting back and forth
I don’t think all forms of authority designed to help/ empower because no one likes having the authority and being controlled by someone and getting told what to do every day it’s like getting told what to do everyday and being know to do this or something is going to happen. When I think of Authority I think of the law and the consequence you have if you break the law. It upsets me when I should have freedom and not be controlled for the things I in my life. I also think the Authority isn’t a bad thing either because you can learn from your mistakes and not do it again. You can learn for what you’ve done wrong in the past and realize what you could have done better or solved what you did wrong. Police have a higher authority then citizens do but the reason why I think ya there not really helping us by writing use tickets. But they're not doing it on purpose because were the one that disobeyed the law. I think when authority changes to helpful to harmful is when there dictated you and control you and tell you what to do or your something is going to happen. Nurse Ratched is depicted as an unhelpful very powerful woman that is making everyone else in the initiation upset and depressed. I the reason why I think she is doing this is that might like hearing other people problems and making them feel worse about themselves and not helping them. There might be a reason why she’s doing this I think she is doing this is because she might get a higher paycheck if people stay there for a longer period of time. -Jacob Tofteland
I think forms of authority exist in my life is making decisions where I want to work when I become an adult. Also what colleges to apply for and if you want to stay around where you grew up or move somewhere else. Most important learn the value of money so you can pay where you want to live and utilities, taxes, recreation and a lot more. Authority helps us by making the right or wrong decisions and learn from your mistakes. I think authority powers us by making us think and becoming the person you are today and in the future. If you make a wrong decision you always can turn back where you left off. You may make the wrong decisions in life but no ones perfect. I think when I think of authority I think of law. Law helps us make the right decisions in life and not danger other lives. For example we only have one president which makes the decisions to make the US a better place to live as citizens. Parents have the most authority in my life because they make you who you are without parents you’ll be lost and have no clue what to do. Have no one to guide you to make the right choices. You learn a lot from family. Nurse Ratched has authority over everyone of the patients. She mostly has authority over Murphy especially when he asked to watch the baseball game. When it came to changing the schedule she said raise your hand if you agree and said you need a majority vote this is only half of the patients. She makes people feel depressed by talking in a large circle about your problems to everyone else. Lastly authority is good to learn so you can make good choices and bad choices in life.
What is authority. Authority is looking after other people that are not yet responsible or people that can not be trusted like the people in the hospital but the nurse to me seems like she is strict rules with a iron fist is not open to change and likes every thing to happen in order like clock work. Then on the other hand the patients in the hospital seem like most of them are mentally stable and they just want things to be a little different. So here how authority is for me. I follow my parents rules as well as the rules my teachers have but i also have my own rules that i follow because i'm old enough to have my own rules. So here what i think that authorities help and empowers people but like i said the nurse is very restrictive does not like change want everyone to follow the rules even if no one else agrees with them. How authority can be harmful i think that happens when someone forces rules or actions agents the will of the people that they are trying to help and if your forcing them to always be around people you might end up thinking that being alone is bad. Another bad thing is that there not really having good life changing experiences or being encouraged to have fun or speak their mind telling them how they feel if they did something like that some of those patients would be alot better mentally and more confident in life. So in conclusion that what i think is authority it should help empower you and also keep you from doing something stupid or dangerous. Then on the other hand some people think authority should be over controlling or restrict people from doing thing that are different. So they are forcing them to follow a routine instead of having a variety in there life.
I live by myself so no authority is really ever present. The only times I have to really listen to authorities is when I'm at school because of the teachers and the principals. Then there is work I got my manager that I work with some days that I have to listen to when I'm told to do something and outside of work and school I just have cops but that also includes all the laws and stuff the states and federal government make that us citizens have to follow through with. Everyday is based on authority our lives will constantly involve authority not just by law but by when your working for someone they control your pay rate, they control if you have a job or not. That’s why its best to be working for yourself so your the one above everyone else and you dont have to worry about being pushed around and having to listen to someone. - frederickson
Authority to me means a lot but not alot to me at the same time. When it comes to authority i believe only at a certain amount when it comes to it because there are some opinions towards specific laws that aren't up to some people authorite and have a very. There is a lot of different reason on for i don't listen to authority because you do not know what the person whether they are doing it for the best or are they doing it to cause harm and pain upon your life. When authorite goes downhill is when the person that beholds the power is just trying to get more money from there job because if they got more pull over or more arrest in a certain week they could be hold a lot more wrath upon people then say if there pay was all equal and only could get raise on not by how many arrest they get in a certain amount of time bout on how well they succeed in there job. Like nurse ratched she is very stubborn and really doesn't truly to have her patient be at there full and potential instead of always putting them down and not want to leave the place even when they went in there on volunteer. When mcmurphy comes in there kind of change in pace of the patients as if they are ready to start being productiveness in there life unlike just sitting and trying to figure why they are even in there in the first place. I feel as if the nurse is maybe finally sort of getting a change of mind towards how she wants to portray herself towards the patients and maybe she wants to switch on how she tries.
Keisha Felcher. When you say authority I think of my parents because your parents are the boss of you and they give you orders. Also, my boss because she can give me orders to do my job right and I will have to do them. Also when I think of authority I think of Nurse Ratched because she is always bossing everyone around and she doesn’t let the patients do anything and she is always telling them to calm down. The laws and government and the president can also be another form of authority because they have ruled you're supposed to follow in order to be an American citizen or to not be in jail.
Forms of authority that exist in my like include my aunts and uncles, managers at work and the school administrators, in my opinion, I do not think that all forms of authority are meant to help or empower you. Sometimes it can be a negative authority. An example of when authority changes from positive to negative is Hitler and the Nazis. They had complete authority over the Jewish people but it was a very negative form of authority. It did not empower the people, it took complete power away from them, it made it seem like they were nothing. It dehumanized them. That to me is an example of when authority became harmful. Another example of when authority becomes harmful is when they use it more than they should. Like we always hear about how a child is being abused by their parents or literally has no freedom. They use their authority to do bad things too like they'll say that if they do not do something they will do something bad to them. Kind of like a threat to the child. But there are also positive forms of authority. Like for instance, I take care of my brother. I am always the one that he listens to and the one that always tells him what is right from what is wrong. Teaching someone right from wrong is not a form of bad authority. It helps people and it empowers the person.
Authority in life makes you work to live your life to the authority where you're forced to work to live life. my mom and dad have the authority to tell me what to do and how to do it. my work manager tells me certain things to do, that need to be done by the time I leave. teachers tell me when certain assignments are due. Authority is also when someone is doing something bad and the cops bust them for it and try to tell them to stop and do the thing. in the movie the nurse had authority on all the people inside there because she made them do certain things and not have many options threw out the day and what to do. McMurphy was trying to use authority to get that last person to raise his hand so they all could watch the world series.
The only authority I really have is at school. I mean yeah, my parents still like ask me to do things and help them out for such stuff, but they don't really treat me like a child, they treat me like an adult, and let me decide to do things I want to do and not do. At school though, there's a lot of authority. We have the resource officer, counselors, teachers, principal and vice principal, all telling us how to act, and how to talk, what to do and not to do, but it's a good authority. Not at all like Miss Ratched. She I think just takes advantage of the patients and purposefully gets them wild up so they can be taken to the doctor and have bad things done to them.-zoie hite

the authority is good for you and sometimes it bad for you .the good authority is the authority that drives you into the right path for life but sometimes when it drives you to the wrong path and doesn't help you it can harm you for your whole life .the way they show it in the movie they make them talk about their problems but not how to fix them so it keeps making them worse and worse .they authority, when they give them the option to vote there are only 20 people there, is only about 9 know that there at the mental institute making it unfair for a vote to even happen .when they make it so that person who is just a crazy outgoing partyer go to a mental hospital is the wrong path because that man didn't deserve to be in that place and for the other people the gay guy doesn't need to be in there he's scared he's going to be bashed in this movie and denies it.
