This quote does not really make sense to me in my mind. Like how can something be the truth if it never occurred? For me for something to be the truth it has to happen in real life time and actually occur how it is being explained. Other than that how could it possibly be the truth? But at the same time, Chief may be referring to something else totally different like he may want this quote to be taken in in a different way than I am saying. It may be something very logical and I just need more understanding of what he is trying to say or what point he is attempting to get across at that point and time.

Is it true if it doesn't happen. Well if it does not happen then there is no way to prove that it is not true though most people would need evidence to prove if something is true while someouther people would think that something is true without evidence if they did trust that person well enough to believe what that person said. Another way to think about it it can be true if your the only person who can say that if it is true and people you tell don't trust you then i think they can say it is not real or true. Another way to look at that saying is that if it does not happen then most people would think that it is false that is why you need proof in order to show that weather something is true or not. So in conclusion that is what i think that you need to have proof that something is real for it to be true unless it is something that only you have seen so i think that it can be true to you even if everyone else does not think that it happen or they think that it not true but it can be true and real to you.

This quote is talking about authority. It is saying that whoever has the most authority will be the person who everyone will believe. It means that a lie told by an authority figure will be believed over the truth told by someone with no authority. It means that even though McMurphy reported Nurse Ratchet as being an awful woman the men who told that to responded by saying that Nurse Ratchet is one of the best nurses in the ward. People are much more likely to believe Nurse Ratchet, a professional nurse, over McMurphy, a criminal, because Nurse Ratchet help more authority and McMurphy has had a bad past with lots of mistakes that would make him less trustworthy. Sometimes people who are rich, strong authority figures, or have a clean slate with the law can take advantage of people in court because they have a "who would they believe" type mentality where the truth is whatever someone who seems trustworthy says it is. This quote is saying that in the end, the truth doesn't matter and all that matters is how believable the beholder of the truth is. It doesn't matter what actually happened it only matters what an authority figure thinks happened.

When someone says it's the truth even if it didn't happen, it shows that there may be a different fact hidden underneath the quote when he said that. There are many reason to why a person would say that quote and for someone to say that there has to be an underline fact for someone to have the force to say that. When chief suffocate mcmurphy he didn't do it on purpose but he did because mcmurphy was no longer with them, he was there physical but he was not there mentally. In my mind i feel as if chief did that too him because he knew if he would just leave mcmurphy in the hospital the rest of his life he knew that the old mcmurphy would have wanted him to do it because he wouldn't want to sit there lifeless. FOr chief to do that it means alot because before mcmurphy came around chief had not spoken a word to anyone and mcmurhy gave him the hope and courage that he needed to finally say that i am bigger than this hospital and that i am strong enough to go out to the real world.

Keisha Felcher. I think this quote is interesting. But to me, it makes no sense whatsoever. Also, how could it have been true if it has never happened? You can’t really predict anything that hasn’t happened. Also, the thing that might be true it could have been fake or false. You never know what it’s going to be until it has happened.

I'm questioning how this quote makes even a little bit of sense. How could something be the truth if it never even happened? It would be hard for me to believe that something happened if I couldn't see if it actually happened or if it's completely true. If you would want to know if something actually happened my guess would be you would want to see if it's true. Like some people say they want to see it believe it. But I have a hard time believing this quote.

I don't really understand the quote. I think it means its the truth is like its the truth that he killed McMurphy. If it didn't happen is like he really didn't kill McMurphy because he was already gone inside. I think he may be regretting it in a way like he didn't want to kill McMurphy he knew that it was better to put him out of his misery instead of suffering. It could mean something way different and since I don't understand it well its harder for me to know what he meant.

I think that chief is trying to say that even if the people he by arent putting him down there are always going to put them down. but I'm going to take it in the way that he will always be put down even if anything isn't said to him and he will always feel small till he is brought up like he was with mcmurfy and at the end of the movie he said he feels as big as a mountain then breaks down the whole wall with no hesitation lifting up that marble power washer I think that in others ways he thinks that people will always do it if its not true and he found out because people think that he's deaf so he could hear what people would say to him but they wouldn't know

To be one hundred percent honest I have no idea what it actually means in his words but I feel like it was said when he killed McMurphy. I could believe that it may be a saying of the actual truth that he has witnessed in the hospital. It is saying that it is not true that McMurphy was alive but yet he was in a dead, zombie way. I feel like there isn't much else that I could say about this quote chief made. There could be many different things that it could be after the fact that we do not know his actual life.

If you look at the quote literally you could take it to mean an opinion about someone is true whether or not someone else shares it. That is one way this could make literal sense but I don't think it is meant to. Chief Bromden means to say that someone could say nasty things to him and he might as well have done those nasty things because it hurt his feelings. I think this quote makes more sense when you hear him talk about how the bottle starts drinking out of you. It takes from you the more you take from it. Chief Bromden is an extraordinarily tough character at the end of the movie but at the beginning he feels as small as a mouse. At the end he says he feels as big as a mountain before noticing that McMurphy has been lobotomized. Earlier in the movie they hear rumors that McMurphy has escaped and what I think they mean is that he has been lobotomized and that he has escaped through his soul. He has empowered people his entire life and now that he has given these people in the cuckoos nest this gift the people who institutionalize them felt the need to take the power away from him. The best thing anyone can do is help other people, and the best kinds of people are those who help others when they could be helping themselves. See, that is what the quote is about. McMurphy did escape, he fought off the guards until the day he was freed mentally from that place. Chief Bromden knew he was free so he helped him break loose by killing the body, the last tie to this place.

I don't really get this quote I don't understand how something can be true if it never happened. Like why would anyone go by that quote like what if they got accused of doing something they didn’t do and they are getting put in prison for it. Wouldn’t you want to find out who actually did the crime or would you just go by your quote “its the truth or it didn’t happen”? I personally would feel as if my life was being taken away from me and I would be pretty upset about it. So the quote doesn't make sense at all to me i find it to be really irrelevant. So i don’t know if there is a specific definition that i just don't know about but that is just how i am seeing it in my own eyes. Because in order for something to happen it has to happen you gotta do it yourself or it never happened. -frederickson

To be honest I have any clue what this quote means in his words but it means to me is I think he is talking about killing McMurphy. I could believe that the quote could be him telling the truth and has witnessed something similar while he was in the hospital. What it’s saying is it’s not true that McMurphy was alive but yet he was also dead as a zombie in a way. In my option, I don’t think I can go more into detail about the quote chief made. There could be many more different ways the quote chief said can mean after the fact that we don’t know his actual life and background about him.

I think the Ouote means, in my opinion, is when something happens it will probably happen. But honestly, I don't really know how to comprehend it could mean something completely different. The quote could be specifically about McMurphy about how he dead now he can't move all by himself again. Chief could imagine it in his head or have it happened to someone else before and don't want McMurphy to suffer. Chef ended McMurphy's life so he doesn't have to feel any pain or misery. Chef has a good heart which he cares about McMurphy and helped him out in the hospital.

Valdez - I believe the quote by Chief Bromden "It's the truth even if it didn't happen." has a different meaning for everyone for me it means that things in your life can happen to you in your head and you may see it as or believe it is real but it may not actually be real. for example i have had a dream that I was a police officer in a shoot out and we shot twice in the chest but my bullet proof vest stopped it and it felt super real i woke up with my chest hurting pretty bad even though nothing happened in real life.

It’s the truth even if it didn’t happen this quote to me I don’t really get because if you tell the truth that is the truth. If it didn’t happen then that would be a lie but how do you define a lie I guess because the quote is telling me that a lie is not really a lie think only truth but if it didn’t happen then how could it be the truth. Maybe he’s talking about if your quiet and you see the truth happen and you saw it but you didn’t say anything then that means even if I didn’t say it was the truth it still happened. If you can’t talk then it’s the truth but you can’t communicate the truth because you talk so, therefore, it’s like it didn’t even happen then since you can’t tell anybody then it mine as well not happen.

I think the reason why Chief said: "It's the truth even if it didn't happen," is because somethings shouldn't be told to some people. An example is when Billy sleeps with the girl at the institution. Nurse Ratchet didn't have to tell Billy's mom about him sleeping with her because he was late 20's. If Nurse Ratchet wouldn't have said she is gonna tell his mom he wouldn't have killed himself. I think another reason why he said that is because of Murphy. Because he did actually kill Murphy when he was brought back from being on a different level. But chief saw what kind of condition he was in and realized he couldn't do anything for himself anymore. The reason he probably thought that is they did a lobotomize to him which makes it his frontal lobe disconnected from the rest of the brain. It was to make him easier to cooperate but it had gone wrong and made him mostly a vegetable. So when Cheif saw that he was like that he smothered him with a pillow. But he did kill the physical body the mind or person who was inside before was dead and he couldn't even take care of himself anymore.

In my opinion, I think this quote is just implying something. Like something might have no happened but the truth to it is that it is implying something else. For example, if someone is in court saying something related to a charge for a person but not actually saying that the person did it, just implying they did, that's what that quote could mean. It's true they did it but they just aren't saying it. Other than that I don't really understand this quote because if it's not that than the quote makes no sense on how something is true even if it didn't happen.

Just because it didn't happen in your world, doesn't mean that in someone else's world it isn't true. You don't have to see things for them to be true, I have never in my life seen a polar bear in front of my face, that doesn't mean that they aren't real or that the pictures are fake, does it? No. Exactly. Some people, they see things that aren't true, they come up with these stories in their head that they believe are true because it helps them to believe they aren't crazy at all. It makes them sane, and normal. Just because it didn't happen, doesn't mean it's not true. -zoie hite
