The Impossible—due March 12
What exists in the world that was once impossible? (Example: a car that can drive 80 mph for six hours straight on its way to Rapid City. Amazing if you think about it.)
What did you doubt existed once, but learned it's actually possible and real? (Example: fish that makes light on its head to attract prey. ) Include 200+ words.

What I learned that I thought it was Impossible that is possible today was. When I was a younger I thought it was Impossible how a wild animal like a tiger etc can be tamed and protect you from being endangered. I thought even if you tame the wild animals to the animals would still process to attack for survival. I would also think you’d have to be really careful and know what you’re doing so you don’t get yourself killed. Like in the movie how PI and the tiger Richard Parker was still dangerous to be around after PI tamed him when he was on the raft. I thought when I was younger I would go to the zoo and think about how can you have so much trust in the animal and think nothing will happen. I would still think something could happen even the animal is tamed but they have the mindset to still attack for survival and to stay alive. After watching the movie I rethought my was impossible and is possible today is yes taming a wild animal like a tiger etc is possible but you have to have trust and believe in yourself and show the animals you trust them and know they will protect you but you have to show them you will return the favor.
What I learned that I thought was impossible that is possible today. I never know a tiger can be tamed and if so how would you do in the process without getting hurt or even dying in the process. I wouldn't even be able to look at it in the eye without freaking out. Tiger in the movie and real life would protect his area and domain from anyone trying to torture it or not but am certain that a tiger would win other a human. The movie was actually really cool to see how Pi handle everything that was coming at him and how he did different strategies to the point that he can trust him. It was so funny that Pi yelled at him and urinated to his side but the tiger didn't care and just sprayed him back. When I was younger I never knew a person can handle a tiger but nowadays at a zoo which I haven't been to one forever. I can see if you are a kid like Pi that was born in a zoo and his father gave him advice you may have a chance but any other human that wasn't would not survive. You'll need equipment like a long stick and provide him food like meat to trust you like pie did. Lastly, you'll need to take all the advice you have learned and knowledge to start to attempt that kind of thing like that.
Touch screen cellphones were invented when I was in elementary school, but the idea of touch screen cell phones seemed like a very foreign and confusing topic to me at the time. I still really don't understand them because how do they read or tell where on the screen you are touching, and why do they only work with your fingers? And the ones that can read fingerprints are even more amazing because it is so small and intricate. I really don't understand how all cell phones are connected through numbers and the internet and code. Technology is amazing and constantly proving way more is possible than I could have ever imagined. -Wardlow
Things that were once impossible thinking that people could fly having the internet was once thought to be impossible being able to travel long distances in a short time is still some thing that seems impossible. However in the movie it seems impossible for someone to survive that long on a boat also are bananas really able to float out in the water a few other things how did someone find that island how is it like a fly trap how do the fish get to the island how does the island survive with only mirror kats. Why did the japanese reporters say that it was impossible to say what happen was real if you ask me the reason that i think the boat whent and sank was because of how bad the storm had become or maybe something did hit the boat or another option would be maybe the cook on the boat found a way to blow a hole in the boat because he did not like anyone who was on the boat so maybe he tried to sink it so in conclusion that is what i think is what at one point seemed impossible but there is always a way to prove if something is really impossible.
The first thing that comes to mind is the island that is floating and it can create an acid and kill something in it at night. It is just truly interesting that it can do that if it is actually real. I can believe that it could happen with the world we live in right now and the fact we have new findings of things at sea all the time.
that fish can fly that is not real I would still think something could happen even the animal is tamed but they have the mindset to still attack for survival and to stay alive. After watching the movie I rethought my was impossible and is possible today is yes taming a wild animal like a tiger etc is possible but you have to have trust and believe in yourself and show the animals you trust them and know they will protect you but you have to show them you will return the favor. and if you think lion are tame you joking me that you think there tame.
well people use to think it would be impossible to fly across the world but nowadays its the way people get far distances wich people would always not try and change the impossible and do something to change it like flying but it took a turn and people use to think it would be impossible to talk on a phone with someone across the flat earth and have a conversation with them just showing how much the flat earth has developed and people would think it was imposable to go to the moon and put our flag there but we did it making the moon American.
3D printing was impossible until just in the last few years. I never in a million years thought that something so exhilarating would be created in my generation or lifetime. It is really crazy how far technology and other things have come in just the last few years in general. Just imagine 3D printing a usable electronic device or something like that. Like it is completely mind-blowing to me that you can print out something that is not flat thus the "3D" part of it.
I think of the island that Pi and Richard Parker arrive at that is all floating. When they got to the island, there was a whole bunch of meerkats surrounding the island. Once it hit night time, The water surrounding the island turned to acid. In the pools or lagoons, there were floating dead fish that were dissolving. To me, I don't think that could actually happen in real life on an island.
When I was little I didn't believe that animals could be your friends because all you ever see on tv really about animals is them killing each other and it's all the survival of the fittest but yet, they can. You have dogs, or cats and they can usually sense when something is going on, and they will give you signs or warn you that something is wrong and they will try and protect you. For instance, if you grow up in a pack of wolves, those wolves are going to protect you, they will fight for you because to them, you are family. I watched a video once that showed a Jaguar hunting, and she killed something and ate it but found that it had a baby, and the Jaguar took the other baby animal to her litter and took care of it and gave it food. Not all animals are ruthless and have no soul, some are very great and have the kindest souls you could ever see in something.
Also, something that exists in our world today that was once impossible is the internet. I don't think that people from the 1800s or earlier could have ever thought of something so intelligent let alone actually make it happen. Back then there wasnt much technology to work with anyway.
It was once impossible that the world could be round. It was once improbable that the Earth could be the center of the universe. It was ridiculous for people to fly. It was unthinkable that one day machines would do our calculations for us. To this day some people think the holocaust was not plausible, they think it never happened. It is simply inconceivable that we would allow that to happen or that we could invent some of these things. I didn't think monsters existed once. I learned a history lesson from my teachers when we started a unit called "the holocaust" in middle school. I had no idea what it was but I was sure it was some weird jewish religious lesson until we started class that day because I saw the star of David and other stuff hanging around the classroom and pictures of people from the 30s and 40s in lines at what I at first thought were lines for food. (I knew about world war two and Stalins famines). I was told that week in that unit why Hitler was the worlds most evil and cruel man. I knew then that monsters existed. Chief Bromden once said that it was real even if it didn't happen and I like to think that he is right. It is real, but it didn't happen to me. There are lessons to be learned from that and we should not doubt but encourage people to do things however improbable because one day it might just be possible.
There are so many things that were once impossible and now is available for us to use. If we didn't have the wheel we would be able to travel by any type of transportation, we would have to walk everywhere we went. Like the technology that we have is is incredible, who would have thought that we would have a little square that we carry around in our pocket all day and be able to do things on it that are just downright amazing. When is a kid I thought that floating islands where controlled by turtles. That the turtles would swim at the bottom of the floating island and start to swim places with the island on their shell. That's how the island would get from one spot to another. Now a floating island is moved by the wind. Finn
Valdez- I thought that it would be impossible to survive for so long at sea with such little resources. Now seeing his drive and responsibilities that he had I can see how he was able to stand up to the challenge. In first feeding that tiger showed that he made a promise that he was going to protect them and that they were going to live. They build an early on bond that showed they needed each other. Seeing his faith in God was also a positive sign that he was willing to do what it takes to live. This shows how one could live for so long. When you have faith, hope, and trust you can do just about anything.
Flying across the world was once impossible. We didn't start having international flights until January 1st, 1914. So any time before that we didn't have planes that could even fly that far. Before we even had planes no one ever thought of flying anywhere they all just either drove or rode a boat if they need to go international. But it was something that happened and it changes how everyone travels now. I first didn't believe that things could live on the bottom of the Mariana Trench. I didn't think anything could live with the pressure being so much down there. But I found out later on that there was fish that could live that far down and they have been down there for hundreds of years without anyone knowing. Because when we first found the Challenger Deep we didn't think anything could live down there until we started finding things.
What I think that was once impossible was that almost any wild animal like a tiger or a bear could be tamed I thought that was impossible to do that but you go circus and you see these animals being tamed by the people and you think to yourself why doesn't the bear just lashes out at them. When I get older I watch these video's of people having bears and tiger's as pets and you tell yourself that these people are crazy but when you watch the video longer the reason these animals don't lash out at them is because the people raise these animals from when they are young and every day these animals were trained that these people are the dominant ones because if you are a strong person you could punish these animals and show that I am the boss of you and that's why they don't lash out at them when they older because they are trained from a young age that these people are the dominant ones because you feed them every day and you punish when they did something bad. The animals probably thinks if I kill this person then they don't know who would feed them because they don't how to survive on they own even now they have the skill to but they been raised by one person and he is the one giving them food so they probably wouldn't know how to hunt.
Keisha Felcher. When I was in elementary school I once thought that touch screen computers were impossible until I had to use one for an assignment. I was actually very amazed that the computer was a touch screen. It was fun using it too. And now at home, I actually have a touch screen laptop.
What do I think of the island? I think that an island is a place to him that is safe at night but during the day he thinks it's not safe and goes back on the boat with the tiger. Something that used to not exists but does now are planes. Everyone thought it would be impossible to fly and looked down on the people who were trying to fly. Now we have many ways to travel in the air and all serve different purposes. If people didn’t come out and be creative with themselves and coming up with something that wouldn’t just help them pass time. They had a plan and stuck to it and that’s what everyone needs to realize so we can have more cool ways to travel or do something in society.
Most people would not think of it but the internet to me is probably one of the craziest advancements in our society. The internet has allowed us to do things and achieve things that were once thought to be the unthinkable but is now becoming achievable. The internet being wide open for anyone to go on it allows for new ideas to be made because at your fingertips you are able to search up anything of your wildest dreams. If there was no internet in today's society it would definitely set us back a few years because it has opened many new doors for us. I feel like the internet allowed for us as humans to evolve as a species and become more intelligent. There are many reasons to why you would like the internet but there far too few cons to the internet. Cons i can think of for the internet it would have to be that you can easily get exploited off of a picture or from something you have said and they took it out of context.
