What i think of the narratology. To start off i think that it a bad deal that the land owners cut off the water supply and then burned the barn down because they say that they want the money that there due butt how are you supposed to raise cows if you have no water and now even no place to keep them safe at night which makes it almost impossible for that to happen to get the money. Another reason that people need money is because of ben wade and his gang who have robbed the karts that have been carrying the money in to town 22 times which means that the town is getting less and less money which is why i think that the landowners are forcing the farmers to leave so they can sell the land to someone who can pay the cost of the land. Another thing i think is that the person who is a vet would probably work out better as a regular doctor although he is useful for helping horses or cattle they need more human doctors with all the people who have gotten shoot that why i think he would work better as a human doctor. Something that i don't understand is how that ambush was set up to capture wade because he was in the bar with that farmer and the next thing that he know he is surrounded but i don't if the farmer was involved in a part of that ambush i assume that he would be because he would want pay back for the cows that he killed and he also saw a opportunity to get some money to help bring him in.
What I see in this narrative that I would say about the characters. I would say that Ben Wade is the leader that is tough to go against. They think no one can control them in any situation they might be in like beginning they took out a group and stole money and headed to town which tricked the officers on going out to the scene of the crime. The Evans family are just trying to protect their land which the water supply to get any water to feed the cows but the railway man wanted money so they burned down there barn and got caught by a group Ben Wade stole their family cows and traded in there horses. The son William thinks he’s weak and never wants to be like his father. The Plot/setting of the movie was intense to see how they were sleeping and hearing someone outside and saw out the window their barn was on fire. Dan the head of the family lied to his wife and either didn't have money to pay for there land he also wants his children to look up to him and make a living for the family to have well-fed cows and food for them. He was planning to take his kids and head in town to demand to build a new barn for their cattle. They were caught and instead they gave up their horses of cattle and trying to rescue McElroy that was in the group trying to protect the money which he failed. Later in the town, Dan set up Wade and offered to order to take him to detention which he would earn him $200 for his family. Ben saved them during the hunt which means he still as good inside him then later escaped and got captured with these group of people then escaped again to make it to there final destination.
What I see in this narrative that I would say about the characters. I would say that Ben Wade is the leader is tough to go against and wouldn’t want to start a fight with. They think no one can control them in any situation they might be in like beginning they took out a group and stole money and headed to town which tricked the officers on going out to the crime scene. The Evans family are just trying to protect their land which the water supply to get any water to give to the cows but the owner of the railway thought different and wanted money so they decided to burned down there barn and got caught by a group Ben Wade had and stole their family cows and made the decision by trading in there horses. The son William thinks he’s weak and never wants and wanted to be like his father. The Plot/Setting of the movie was intense and extreme to see how they were sleeping and hearing someone outside and saw out the window their barn was on fire. Dan the head of the family lied to his wife and either didn't have a way to get money to pay for there land and he also wants his children to look up to him and follow his footsteps and make a living for the family to have well-fed cows and food for them. He was planning to take his son’s and headed into town to demand to build a new barn for their cattle. They were caught and instead they gave up their horses and cattle and trying to rescue McElroy that was in the group that was trying to protect the money which he failed. Shortly later when they went into town Dan set up Wade and offered to order to take him to detention which he would earn him $200 for his family. Ben saved them during the Hunt/ journey which also means in my option he still as good inside him then later they escaped and got captured with these group of people then escaped again to make it to their final location.
Right as the movie started you could see Dan Evans didn't have it the best. His water supply was cut off and his belongings were destroyed. Then as it gets further into the movie you see Ben Wade doing a lot of criminal actions with his boys such as murder, robbery, property destruction, and many many more illegal things. This is a bad start to first see Ben Wade so right off the bat Ben Wade looks like a bad guy. Then you see how much power he has and how much his crew or his gang whatever you want to call it respects him and obeys his orders. This time really shows how much power Ben Wade has and how much people respect him. The setting is not from our time. It is clearly from way back in the past the old country western days where they rode horse and buggies and got places with horses and this stuff like bank robberies and everything was way higher back then because there was way less control over everything and protections like we have today. Also, William Evans was introduced earlier in the film and I would describe him as a go-getter. He stands for what he believes in and he also does not seem like the type of guy who will give up or back down even when his life is on the line. He is very brave and cares for his family and he only wants the best for them but he thinks they are not being treated fairly and he thinks that his dad is not doing enough to make them stop.
What I see in this movie is that Ben Wade is the leader, and everyone must follow what he says. They try to get Ben Wade on the train which does happen but when he whistle's for his horse you know that he is going to escape. That also the show's how much power Ben Wade has over everyone. Ben Wade is the leader and if you don't follow his command then he thought you deserved to die and that show's at the end of the movie. In this movie, they showed that they didn't have a very good doctor's. I thought this was a great movie because I love western's.
What I think of the characters is that they're all trying to survive they are all trying to grow food for their families and selling the food was a major profit for them because for example 1$ meant a lot back then. What I think of Dan Evans is that is a very honest man he served his country and he came back and trying to be a farmer. Dan Evans is a person that does not want to fight someone he wants to find another solution to solving the problem. What I think of Ben Wade is that I think the reason why he is bad is because his parents I believe that a person is bad because of their parents and it’s hard for them to become good because they don’t have that role model in their life because when they get older they would want to get rid of the person that hurt them. What I think of William Evans is that he reads about gangs and shooting people and he thinks that his father should be able to that and when he doesn’t shoot the people that burned down his barn his son William thinks less of him because he’s not like the people in William book. What I think of the plot was my first reaction to the movie was this is going to be a good movie because when Dan Evans said that he would go I knew that the movie was going to be about him.
This movie is by far my favorite Narrative studied this year. The only problem with it is that is was a very hard narrative to actually learn from. The biggest thing I can take from this is what it is like to be a man with no respect. Dan Evans starts off doing the job as a way of gaining money but in the end, it means way more to him than money. It means respect for him. Dan Evens originally only wanted the money but when his son followed him his motives turned into wishing for respect. Ben Wade respected Dan Evens and Dan knew that and he wanted everyone to respect him that he. He achieved his goal but it was at a price which was death. Dan's son watched him die and I think Dan sort of knew that was going to happen given the circumstances. If Dan would have survived the story would have been too perfect. His son now needs to become a man and ranch and provide for his mother and brother. Joseph Wardlow
What I see in this narrative is that there is a lot of back and forth of good and bad from both men. there were plenty of characters in this movie that were the main characters. dan, ben, the railroad owner, then the guys of bens clan, and a few other people that were in it for most of the time but not all the time like those guys. I guess the symbol of this movie is that there are always good people in the minds of bad people that do the wrong thing and yet can do good things.
Keisha Felcher. In the movie 3:10 to Yuma it’s about Dan Evans trying to capture Ben Wade and bring him to Yuma the train. Since they captured Ben Evans they go through some rough patches along the way. For example, Ben’s people/men are following the men because they want their leader back. The setting is in the 1800s in Arizona by the railroads. Because that’s where Ben Wade terrorizes people. Also Ben and Dan form some sort of friendship along the way too. Because towards the end when Ben was in the train, his fellow follower, Charlie Prince shot Dan Evans like 3 times and Ben has that look on his face saying no. So Ben exits the train looks at Dan as he is dying while Charlie walks away with his back towards Ben. But then Ben looks at Charlie and Charlie knew something was up, so he stopped walking away and turned around and boom that’s when Ben Wade shot Charlie and along with his other men because he respected Dan so much and was trying to teach his men a lesson.
In this narrative, I see a dad who is only trying to help his family get by and he uses his brain a lot to help him outsmart the bad guy. His son doesn't really look up to him and thinks that he is some kind of weak guy who can't stand up to anyone. Dan (the father) tricks Ben (the bad guy) into thinking that he is asking for money when really the cops are outside about to storm in and arrest Ben. Ben then kills the majority of the cops on the way to the train because he continuously loses his temper. They try to keep Ben Wade in their hands but he seems to get away a couple of times. I see in this movie a dad trying to support his family and do what's right and also make some money from doing it. -Zoie Hite
I liked this narrative because I like old western movies. I think it represents how people would always be riding their horses back then and live far out on the deserts. There were lots of robberies and people getting shot in the movie. Also, money was a big deal back then. Like at one point Dan Evans offered to pay Ben Wade to help get him onto the train so that he could escape. Dan Evans originally wanted the money but when his son followed him his motives turned into wishing for respect. Ben Wade was a very respected guy. Everyone knew that he wanted to be respected. His son was there when he got shot and was laying right next to him when he died. In this movie, there are lots of intense parts which builds up the tension as you watch it. But overall, I think this movie was one that I would recommend to someone else to watch.
What I think of this narratology is that it is something that you have to think about if you wanna guess what is going to happen. Because I wouldn't have thought of like how they got the wagon stuck on the bridge and they swapped out Ben wade to trick his gang. I also thought it was more of a realistic movie because when the landowner cut off the water that ran to his ranch, I believe that things like that happened back then if you didn't pay on time. I thought it was different to have his son idolize Ben wade and see his father as a coward. But Dan has seen more than enough for his life and losing his leg in the war and how hard it was for him to come back. But his son doesn't know what his dad has all done but he has heard all about the great life of ben wade and that's why his son likes him more. My favorite part in the narratology is when ben wade gets away and try to get away in the train shafts. When he ran into the village and tried to get his cuffs cut off but before anyone could help him he was already being held at gunpoint. Then they took him and strung him up and electrocuted him. I think they did it to get information out of him. I don't know what information they were trying to get out of him.
I think of this narratology is like a real world perspective like how there’s really good people in this world and there’s really bad people. Like how Dan is a good guy and he has the chance to kill Ben Wade. And like have Ben Wade basically kills for no reason but there is some reason for some of them like the old guy in the horse called his mom a whore. William thinks less of his dad because his dad won’t shoot talker for starting their barn on fire and re-routing the water. William thinks less of his dad because his dad won’t shoot Tucker for starting their barn on fire and re-routing the water. And how William comes in at the best time to save his dad and the other guys were trying to bring justice to Ben Wade. Finn
