Select five chapters of Life of Pi to read. Then, choose two to write 400+ total words about.
Out of the five chapters that I read I picked two of them and the two that I picked were chapter 37 and chapter 38 so what happened in the first chapter was chapter 37 and it was about how the boat started to sink and pi finds himself in a lifeboat in the midst of utter chaos. Then he sees a Bengal tiger and his name is richard parker in the water nearly drowning and urges him to save himself. Next he lets richard parker board on the lifeboat and suddenly pie realizes that he is in danger in sharing the tiny space with the vicious animal then he throws himself into the roiling water. Next the chapter talks about a flashback and it is when pie is sleeping when a loud noise wakes him up and perhaps he thought it was an explosion. Next, he tries to wake his parents up to go exploring with him but they just told him to just go lay back down and it will be okay and close the door. This is when the boat is nearing on one side. Now I am going to talk about chapter 38 that I decide to pick from the two chapters I picked to write about. So what happened in this chapter is that the ships to continue to sink until it disappears and then there is no survivors as far as pi can tell. Then he realizes that he needs to do something in order to prevent further soreness and sickness and get him a spot back on the lifeboat. The pie decides to lift up the cover on the boat and that is where richard parker is hiding and notices that the zebra is still alive but with a severely broken back leg. So then there is a hyena on the boat which could not be both on the lifeboat so he realizes that the crew members must have thrown him on the boat as bait that the heyea has now from the zebra and tiger but he decides to eat the zebra. Pi is very scared of the hyena and decided that the aggression of a dog is preferable to the slyness of the jungle cat. So how these compare to the film is that both of these chapters are close to the movie when pi gets on the lifeboat with the tiger and helps the tiger from drowning and realizes that he needs to man up and have a spot on the boat as well as the tiger does. Then how my second chapter relates to movie is it is the part when he looks down in the water and sees the boat sunk all the way down to the bottom of the ocean and he realizes that he is on his own now with him and the tiger.

Summarize. Analyze. Judge. Praise. Compare to film. So I chose 37, 38,39 ,40 and 41 and Im going to right about 37 and 38. Ok so the story jumped around a little bit at the start of chapter 37 he started talking about when he saw richard parker and said richard parker is that you. Then he continued to start trying to get richard parkers attention by blowing his whistle. Next he called out to richard parker than threw a life buoy at him and it landed right in front of him which did finally catch richard parkers attention. So richard parker starts swimming vigorously towards the boat and he is finally close enough to grab the life buoy. So pi starts to pull richard parker closer to him then he remembers what his brother ravi said that pi is gonna make himself the next goat. So now pi his trying to keep richard parker from getting on the boat by telling him to stay away and trying to push him with the paddle put ends up losing the paddle to to that. Next chapter 38 Pi is describing the boat and saying that it would never sink it is made for these conditions. Also he said he doesn't know what woke him up it could be an explosion or just waves but he isn’t sure cause he was asleep when that sound happened and it woke him up. He said but usually they are used to noise because its not exactly a luxury boat they were sounds all night so now they are so used to its most of the time they go to sleep so easily like they are in perfect silence. Snoring or boat shaking is all stuff they are used to. But when he woke up to a loud sound that we will never know what he woke up and thought he should go explore and he tried waking up his brother saying wake up i heard a explosion we should go explore but ravi just flipped over and went back to sleep. So pi went by himself a choice that he could of just went back to bed but ended up saving his life do to just waking up. So he went to the top of the boat and opened the door and realized that the weather is bad but you he went to go checkout the waves he was fascinated. He went to go check down stairs to make his family wake up and water have filled up the boat because it was slowly sinking. He went back to get some help and some sailors that speaks only Chinese picked him up and throwed him on to a life raft.

He gets strayed to the point in the book and don't have any time for small talk. He was named after a swimming pool. Instead of is father telling him it was his brother that told him in the book. The mother didn't know how to swim. They never mentioned his training with mamaji just showed a little bit in a pool never on the beach. They never mentioned that he went swimming three times a week monday ,wednesday, friday. He went to paris to study and got the financing from the help of the colonial administration. The pool didn't have that special of a name there where a lot of piscines pools this one just was the cleanest out of all the rest. it was basically a resort for people other then this place ever where else was terrible in his eyes. There was two swimmers at the pool that day. And mamaji never told pis dad to name his son that. When they got more land a new zoo was made it was so big they needed a train to go thought it to get around. In this zoo you could also see people sleeping or couples holding hands and sitting with each other. They describe the zoo a lot more then in the movie they don’t show that much in the movie just a couple of seen in it but this has a lot of things in the zoo. Also mamaji goes to more then one pool when he is in paris. He finds the best on last and the olympics are very specific about pool size. They never mention that the father liked talking about swimming even though he can’t swim. Pi gave mamaji some butterflies as a gift. He described a lot more in the book then what we saw in the movie. They mention mamaji more then they mention the parents or the brother. It is as if mamaji is the main character right now.

In Life of Pi, Pi is experiencing many troublesome issues in his life, and I don't blame him, he just lost his mother, father, and his brother, so I would be crying and freaking out too if I was in his shoes. Chpt. 37 stars just as Pi gets on the lifeboat, he is vigorously looking around for any signs of life other than what seems to be drowning under the water. When he sees a head-bobbing, he becomes ecstatic and tries getting closer, he sees that it is Ricard Parker, the adult Bengal tiger from his family zoo in India. He starts yelling to Richard Parker “TREEEEE-TREEEEE-TREE” to get his attention, Richard Parker hears Pi and starts swimming toward him, but he is too tired from trying to stay above the water, This is when Pi started throwing the life preserver in Richard Parker's direction and when the tiger sees this, it pushes him to swim harder than ever. As Pi was pulling in Richard Parker, He thinks to himself, “Finally it will be me and Richard Parker on this lifeboat together”, and that was when reality kicked into Pi’s brain. That he will be on a lifeboat together with an adult Bengal tiger… As he realizes this he starts trying to hit Richard Parker away from the boat, but he was too late, Richard Parker was able to grab ahold of the lifeboat and climb aboard. That was when Pi jumped off the boat into the water. I kind of understand why he wasn't able to get that he was helping a vicious tiger to his boat because he was in a crisis and not thinking properly. But still, it was a tiger who you have known over many years, that was very dangerous. I am very surprised by the way Pi was able to handle this situation and try finding solutions other than like me where I would be rolled up in a ball crying or something. He was able to use his resources and find stuff that wouldn't have just showed up out of nowhere. This book was not really close to the film due to detail, like how in the movie, Pi had no idea that Richard Parker was on the boat the whole time whereas the book, Pi helped Richard Parker onto the lifeboat which is still insane to think that he saved a tiger from the water and let him stay on the boat.

Select five chapters of Life of Pi to read. Then, choose two to write four hundred plus total words about it.

In one of the five chapters one of the chapters in choosing to write about is chapter twenty six. The reason I am choosing to write about this chapter is because it is very different in the book from the movie. In this chapter Pi is asking to be baptized and he also asked for a prayer rug but in the movie he just asked to be baptized. In the movie he is sitting down at the table and his whole family is there and they are eating. Well in the book Pi asks his dad first and when he asked his dad was in his office and his dad has a serious talk with him. In the movie when they are all sitting together they all just kind of play it off but in the book Pi and his father have a serious discussion and his dad asked why he wants to pray at all and Pi said he loves God and his dad seemed surprised when he said that and he asked why he is Christain and how its not normal because they are indians and they should follow hindu and not be a Christain. His dad also says he should believe in both because they are the exact opposite. Then in the book His dad tells Pi to go talk to his mother about what he wants so Pi goes to his mom and she is reading a book and when Pi asked his mom to get baptized and a prayer rug she told him to go ask his father and Pi told her that he already did so then she tries to distract Pi by trying to give him a book and he didn't fall for it this time. She says that her and his father thinks that his religious views are a mystery. So Pi asked how it is a mystery and she says thats its not normal for someone to believe in all the different religions. Pi says that Mamaji has two passports to Two countries so it's like the same thing and his mom says it's not because religions aren't countries and how you can't just have a passport and Pi says how many nations are in the sky and she says one and she says he has taken terribly old fashioned things he had taken to. The second chapter I am going to write about is chapter twenty seven. The reason that I am going to write about this chapter is because it is only in the book and not the movie. In the movie there was never a scene where his parents talk about Pi's religion and in the book they talk about how they don't really like ait and how weird it is for him to be doing that and how they with that Pi was a normal kid and thought about normal things and they talk about how they wish he was like his older brother and how his older brother Ravi is normal. His parents also laugh and joke about his religions. They also think that it is just in his heart and how they hope it is just a phase that he is in and they hope it will pass soon because it is not normal. They say the last religon he has to follow is muslim and they think that will be really weird because it is not normal for people arounf them to do that because it is compleatly different from what their normal people follow. And they judge each other for defending him and what not.

Chapter 63 and Chapter 64

In chapter 63 talks about people that have survived in the oceans and how they survive, but he did survive even longer and he kept busy every day. Which things like, pray, give food to Richard parker, fish, and pray again and many other things. Richard Parker was very important to him because he gave him a purpose and he kept him busy with his food and food for themselves even the tiger was dangerous he helped it keep him busy. The tiger used to be his distraction when he was worried or with nothing to do. One of the things that he talked about that he prayed every day 4 times a day because he needed to have faith something otherwise in a place like that if you lose hope you die. In chapter 64 he talks about how his close is getting disintegrated over time and this will bring some difficulties for him and how saltwater in his skin gave him saltwater boils and he needed to be dry so they don’t get them. By comparison about the book and the movie that is so different than in the movie they just give a little bit of the history and the book as they can and the book gives us way more details and can answer more questions that anyone that reads this can ask themselves. In the book, you can feel the story more than a movie and they talk more about reality than the movie. I think books can do things like give a feeling well and the way that they talk is a difference and can tell us things about the history that the movie cannot and movie can do things that the books can't like give us a visual imagine pictures of the characters and places and things like that. In the book, they give way more description that a person in the sea can be let's say the reality which in the movie they don’t.

Chapter 37

This chapter was talking about the ship sinking and how Pi got Richard Parker on the lifeboat. Pi had a bad pain of grief and he thought that it was all a bad dream. He kept blowing the whistle for Richard Parker to help Richard Parker to get to the lifeboat and to not lose the lifeboat. I like this chapter because I like how it talks about how Pi is feeling and it shows and expresses how Pi is feeling about the whole thing that happened about the ship sinking and about losing everything that he looked up to and everything that meant so much to him in his life. I like how he describes what his father, brother, and mother is to him. I like how Pi keeps talking to Richard Parker and how he is encouraging him to keep swimming to the lifeboat and how he is encouraging him to not give up on life or anything and to always keep trying. I think that in the movie it showed this sence a little different than what it is describing in the book. In the movie when it shows this sence it does not show him blowing the whistle many different times like it shows in the book but, in the movie, it does show Pi blowing the whistle a couple times. In the movie, it showed Pi trying to push Richard Parker away from the lifeboat but in the book, it sounds like he was helping Richard Parker to get in the lifeboat. I like the part towards the end of the chapter where it describes what the tiger is doing where it says that his eyes blazing as they met mine, ears laid tight, and weapons drawn. I like how and the way he describes that part at the end of the chapter.

Chapter 42

This chapter was talking about Orange Juice the monkey and how the monkey was feeling. I like how he is describing what is happening and how he is describing the monkey. When it talks about towards the end of the chapter about how Orange Juice feels and how Orange Juice was in shock makes me think about how she is fully feeling about the whole thing happening and it makes me think about how Orange Juice is processing all of what happened to them. This chapter also talks about black spiders but in the movie, it never talked about black spiders so that is something different about the book and the movie. I like the part where it talks about the bananas floating in the water and how they started to sink after the monkey got off of them. This chapter makes me think about how all of them are thinking and what their feelings are.

Chapter 63
In chapter 63 pie is talking about how all these other people who were in a shipwreck who survildred for a long period of time if they can do it pie could do it. This is how he survived sunrise he would wake up pray give richard parker food and inspect the raft and lifeboat . mid morning to late afternoon prays light lunch and he would alleyway watch over richard parker so these gave him purpose to stay alive for richard park state. Richard park he would eat drink and sleep to past time. Chapter 63 in the movies pie would always tries to ration his food or always work on his raft to make it better and he would try to train or taim richard parker so he would to be wild in the boat or go crazy

Chapter 64 this was a trouble for pie the fresh salt water was make his skin gauze thin the salt and sun would make his cloth disintegrated. In the movies it shown that pie was not having troubles with all these things that are happening in the movies
In Chapter 65 pie crisis out to jesus his mother mary muhammed and bish he said all these god named because he was sad and made cause the storm was make him and richard parker missable Cause they were in a big storm and from the movies pie tries to open up the curtain so richard park could see the storm but the storm was scary richard parker and pie yell out to the gods and tell them why you are scaring richard parker. When pie was in the water an oil tanker went past him and into the movies this happen too he fired up flare but they oil tanker did not see them so they were almost save but they weren't Chapter 92

In this chapter, he compared how much he have stayed more than the Robertson family. Pi talks about other survivors of shipwrecks and then tells how he survived much longer at 227 days. He uses them as inspiration. He compared himself with the other families stay to get himself busy and not just stress about where he is living he does activities as other people will do to keep themselves busy in their daily basis where they are living. He also prays to make himself not to give up on what he is experiencing that looks Impossible for others to do. He lost all of his family and had to figure out how to manage all the food he needed to stay with the tiger because that was the only thing that was giving him hope to survive at first. I like how he explains what he did mostly every day with Richard Parker and he survived with the tiger that seems Impossible to I was like how did he not kill him when he was sleeping right by his side every time. I like this chapter because it feels I'm in the situation with him when I read the book and also I felt that when I was watching the movie.

Chapter 41

This chapter was talking about how he struggled in the ships while he was staying to survive and also at the same time help Richard Parker to survive. Richard Parker was staying under the tarpaulin and also he kept his distance from Pi even though Richard Parker was trying to take him down at first. After a lot of struggles getting used to each other in the boat when the wave knocked down Pi Richard Parker did something to save him so that he doesn't drown.

Chapter 2 talks about PI and this is from the author’s perspective, so Pi lives in a place called Scarborough. The author says that he is a small slim man with dark hair, dark eyes, with hair grey at his temples he couldn’t be older than forty. Analyzing chapter 2 the author talks about the weather being mild fall-like but with big winter parka that has a fur-lined hood for a walk to dinner, this what the author says about Pi he speaks quickly, hands flitting about with no small talk PI goes straight forth. I like how much detail the author put into chapter two like with the surroundings the author is trying to make you imagine their surroundings with so much detail. One of the things that I think the author did a great job on is making you feel like your there with them when the author is telling you about there surroundings. The details in the book are just like the movie with the detail about PI and the author when they were in his house having a meal but in the book the author talk about the surroundings outside the house more than in the film. Chapter 12 is when the author talks about Pi telling his story and how emotional he can be and the author is worrying that Pi might want to stop but Pi wants to tell his story to him and the author says that after all of these years Richard parker is preys on his mind. Then the author starts talking about how every time he visits they always have a south Indian vegetarian feast and the author tells PI that he likes spicy food but he doesn’t know why he said it because he doesn’t like spicy food. The author adds a dollop of yogurt after dollop of yogurt and each time it’s the same, his taste buds shrivel up and die, his skin goes beet red and his eye’s go up in tear’s and his head feels like it’s on fire then the author talks about his insides twist and groan because of the heat. One of the main thing’s that I analyze in chapter 12 was the consistent talk of Pi’s south Indian vegetarian feast that they have every time he comes and visits. One thing that I judge in chapter 12 is when the author does his best to understand what Pi went through and how much he has to go through when he talk’s about the story because it makes feel like he is there again. One thing that I praise about chapter 12 is they go from talking about the story to the feast and I like that the author includes this human interaction because most books don’t do that. Chapter 12 of the book compared to the movie, in the movie they do show that scene but they don’t go very much into detail in the film compared to the movie about the food but when they are talking about PI’s story in the book and film they are both close with the details.

Out of the five chapters that I read I picked two of them and the two that I picked were chapter 37 and chapter 38 so what happened in the first chapter was chapter 37 and it was about how the boat started to sink and pi finds himself in a lifeboat in the midst of utter chaos.
