the hall is hope darkness had to be amazingly dark they have seen so many wannabe heroes that end up dead so there isn't a lot of hope for bear wolf rothgard doesn't believe at all that bear wolf can slay the beast but in the movie routhguard is one of the only people to believe in bear wolf. grandly attacked bear wolf while he was sleeping bear wolf fought him like a man monster on monster bear wolf had grandly pined to the floor and ripped his arm from his body
What is the main idea of Beowulf's fight against Grendel(podcast edition)? His arrival in a bit more of an accurate retelling really showed how different these types of adaptations exist with a different twist. The 2007 film made Grendel more of a monstrous minion of his mother while the podcast made him a bit smarter and have a semblance of self-preservation when things start to not go his way during the fight with Beowulf. Especially the part when Beowulf ripped Grendel's arm off.
Podcast-The things I don't understand is Hrothgar. Hrothgar in the film is lazy, always drunk, and seemingly doesn't care about things. He hires people from different lands including Beowulf to take of the monster Grendel instead of himself. In the movie, he has courage for him, treats him like a son, and has no doubts for him. In the podcast, he had serious doubts for him and he will not succeed. Sometimes I think he had doubt for him is because he possibly knew that he would be manipulated by that mother demon and have to fight another creature like Grendel except more powerful in my theory. I can't even tell if this ever happened to Hrothgar just like Beowulf, but he didn't tell him a thing and it remains a mystery.
How are the movies and podcasts different? One of them is that Beowulf is a bragger in the podcast and he bragged about everything. Then another one is that Hrothgar doubted him because he didn’t believe in anything that Beowulf did. Another thing is that the Greets didn’t go to bed because they were singing to get Grendel to get him to come. The only person that slept in the movie is Beowulf because he wanted his rest for the fight. Beowulf didn’t pin Grendel to the ground in the movie. He fought and fought and he was punching him in his ear. Then Grendel trying to leave then Beowulf shuts the door and Grendel's arm falls off. The podcast says Grendel's arm was spiky and hairy. But in the movie, Grendel's arm was not spiky or anything. Grendel's mother came to the Hall and in the movie, Beowulf went to her cave. Grendel’s mother came to avenge Grendel's death but in the movie, she just sang to Grendel. Beowulf went to the cave with Wiglaf and no one else. In the podcast there are wolves and in the movie, there were no wolves. In the movie, there was no lake but there was one place where nothing grew but wasn’t by a lake. The lake in the movie was in the cave. In the movie, Hrothgar jumped from his castle and in the podcast, he jumped into the snake pit or water. The sword Hrunting in the movie was a normal size sword but in the podcast, the sword is made for the giants. This is way different because in the movie it is telling us that Grendel’s mother just stayed in the cave. It is just so weird to hear different stories but they are the same story. Pfeiffer
Grendel's arm and part of his shoulder is missing. Hrothgar saw blood on the snow and realized the Geets were dead. Unferth was shocked the Beowulf actually killed Grendel. Grendel's arm is very spiky and very scary. Once the mead hall was repaired, Hrothgar through a party in honor of Beowulf. Beowulf and his Geets got special sleeping quarters. Hrothgar best soldier put his bed down by the door because no one else would sleep there because everyone heard about the attacks of Grendel. Later that night Grendel's mother attacked and the doors flung over and everyone felt the cold air. The monster killed the king's best warrior and everyone was scared. Hrothgar was sad until Beowulf arrived but Hrothgar's warriors were waiting at the door ready to attack until they saw Beowulf and his warriors and everyone was excited. Hrothgar didn’t know that it was Grendel's mother that attacked them. She lives in a forest in a swamp. Hrothgar is scared to fight her by himself, so he needs Beowulf to fight her for him. They tried to hunt Grendel's mother, so they could fight her. Once they got closer they heard wolves. Beowulf heard one of his warriors draw his weapon because he saw someone stalking them. Beowulf had everyone draw their weapons when he saw it for himself. The lake is so beautiful that the tree’s grow away from it. He shot a single arrow into the water and took his armor out of his bag and later he killed the dragon. To Hrothgar's people Beowulf is a hero for taking care of the monsters.
The overall ideas about Beowulf against Grendel Mother(podcast edition). Grendels Mother had a very different entrance in the podcast compared to the film version, In the film, she entered via the soldier's dreams and killed them and hung them on the ceiling of the mead hall like some kind of ghost or demon with very powerful magic and illusions. The audiobook, she was a giant monster that floats in and killed and ate one of King Hrothgar's best soldiers. On the journey towards the Lake where Grendel's Mother, the group who joined Beowulf to hunt her down, noticed the trees were leaning away from the lake itself as if they know what kind of evil and darkness dwells there. The way to kill a dragon via a certain spot in their neck was foreshadowed by seeing a dead dragon land near the lake while the film made the way towards the lake resemble female reproduction organs. Beowulf is willing to go and kill Grendel's Mother and does it compared to the film where he succumbed to her charisma and had some "time" together. Already we see how radically different people can interpret a rather very simple story or locations within the story and add something to it, like making certain characters more likable or tragic to heighten people's emotions towards them. We see from the description of Grendel's mother appearance always seems to either make her as hideous as her son or a very human-looking water witch/demon. But both versions always made sure she is more supernatural with the way she fights using more trickery and magic to get her way of dealing with humans.
- Mead Hall is a place where people drink mead and celebrate something - The Mead Hall was also a place to where there was light, warmth. - there was a Demon(Grendel) that would come and break the light, and make it cold. And would kill the people in the Hall. - It was REALLY dark. - Hrothgar doubts him in the writing, not the movie. -Queen doubts him in the movie - Beowulf in the reading was clearly stronger than Grendel. In the writing made Grendel really weak compared to the movie. -The Beowulf used the door to take Grendel’s arms off, but in the writing Beowulf just took it off.
Beowulf killed Grendel and now they are free. But know they have to clean up and fix everything. They are going to celebrate the huge win. Then when they went to sleep the mom of Grendel came and she was mad. She took one one soldier and split him in half. I think that it is funny that Horathgar didn’t mention that there was a mom of Grendel. He told Beowulf that there was a mom and he wanted him to kill her, he gave Beowulf directions on where she is located. In the movie there are no dogs or wolves, but here the reading is. Beowulf had a bow in the reading but in the movie he didn’t, he just had a sword. Also in the reading there were more people with Beowulf in the reading. In the movie it was just Beowulf and his friend. I think that reading has a lot more action in it because of all of the added things like wolves. There were also serperants when Beowulf was going to kill the mother of Grendel. Beowulf also seemed more strong in the reading than in the movie. The reason why I think this is because in the movie Beowulf used the door to take off Grendel's arm, but in the reading he just took it off with his bare hands. To me I think that the reading sounds more interesting than the movie because of all the added things. Because in the movie it didn’t have wolves or other serpents. But I still think that the movie was cool. What I find interesting is that why didn’t they use everything in the reading, why did they take some things out? I find it really cool that Beowulf used his bare hands to tear off Grendel's arm.
rothgaurd new grendels mother would come get reveng for her son but he let them party and drink meed any way then grendels mom showed up and killed a bunch of them bear wolf was mad that rothgaurd didnt say anthing about 2 monsters and not only did he know about her he new exstily to the point where she lived bear wolf was giving a sorwed called runting to slay the beast
Now I have watched the movie from the beginning but I didn’t hear the podcast so I cannot react to it but I guess I would react to the movie since I didn’t last time that we were asked to type about the movie. Beowulf is a warrior who came to help the king Hrothgar at the kingdom. A monster named Grendel. The monster scared all the people in the kingdom but Beowulf killed him and he was the hero, he was sent to kill Grendel’s mother too but he got convinced to not kill her and he gave her a son and he would have all the gold and the power he wanted. He went back to the kingdom saying that he killed Grendel’s mother which wasn’t true after a long period of time his son showed up destroying his kingdom they fight and all the stuff and in the end both of them die but the witch is still alive.
compare the movie and the podcast with the regard to Beowulf. while I listen to the podcast when Beowulf rips of Grendel's arm but in the movie the door rips his arm off. Another thing was how in the podcast Grendel's mom came down to the hall but in the movie, they go to the cave. in the movie, Beowulf took off all his clothes but in the podcast, he keeps it on but still takes his armor on. in the podcast the king is the one who doubts Beowulf but in the movie the queen is the one doubting him. in the movie Beowulf hits Grendels bad ear but in the podcast he doesn't. what do you think caused Grendel's attack? I think that all the loud noises bothered him and he attacks when it's too loud.
there are many differences between the movie and podcast. first off, we are given an actual timeline of how long the monster has been attacking in the podcast.beowulf is more boastful in the podcast as well. the movie showed more light then there actually was back then. ashara is a character highlighted in the podcast and im not sure he was even mentioned in the movie. grendals death was also different from the movie. he made it back to the cave in the movie.
1. How are __wrothgars goals___________ and ___Barewolfs goals__________ alike? The goals of Wrothgar are to get rid of Grendel and make sure his family and queen and men are safe and to keep the kingdom safe. Barewolfs goals are to get rid of Grendel and save his men with Wrothgars men and the queen. Barewolfs goal was to get rid of Grendel's mom but could not kill her.
6. What do you think causes Grendel's mother to run off? I think the way the men are and what they have done to her son. She is scared that is going to happen to her and she won’t be able to have anymore kids.
8. Which is the best fighter and why? I think Barewolf is the best fighter because he can just around and swing around like a monkey. He can get up on top of the monsters and kill them by stabbing them in the eyes or blowing ear drums.
4. In what way is Gates related to Gats? Gates is related to Gats because of how the people put it and how they say it. It is actually Gates but some people say Gats.
so there was a lot of things different between the movie and the podcast like how in the movie the demon called mother seduced Beowulf but in the podcast, she wanted to kill the man how killed her son and another one is when Beowulf ripped the monster arm off in the podcast but in his arm got cut off with the door to the mead hall so in a way 1) how are the movie and podcast alike they both have the same motive to kill the monster and have a party.
Ep. 1, Beginning Mead = Honey wine can be sweet or bitter, depending on what you fancy
Mead-hall was supposed to be a bright, warm place and originally was to be for hope, now the hall is meant for death and despair. Wanted to craft his own wonder, but where buzzed and sent their parent to die. People now don’t go or enter the mead hall.
The crew entered the baron mead-hall and went over the plan for the night, and accepted that Beowulf is definitely going to fail this task, he also has his hubris, he brags, like a lot. The men could drink before they would die. Unferth said with a slow clap that Beowulf lost to a race and Beowulf said that Unferth killed his family in an argument. Then continued partying until the slumber party started. Beowulf woke after the first crunch and kicked Grendal’s ass resulting in the bois waking up. After the fight and Grendal unable to run away, Beowulf dislocated Grendal’s arm and tore that bastard off while bashing the door on his arm
Episode 2. Middle *repeat stuff that happened in the movie* Beowulf did a big brain move and cornered her but then the sword bounced off her. The mother kept trying to kill Beowulf but the smart big brain boi he is found a magical sword
*movie stuff yet again*
Episode 3. End Slave went from cave to cave for shelter and goes to the back of the cave and found spooky stuff, a version of Scrooge McDuck’s vault but medieval, and found a large dragon and did a big run away and grabbed a gold chalice dragon woke up and felt something off in the room and missed his chalice. Swords shatter because he is a big strong buff guy and is now going to that cave with the slave. inspected cave and heard dragon go to sleep and now unlocked a new emotion, FEAR, killed the dragon, lost comrades except one and finally died
the podcast and the movie are totally different because in the movie they had added cinematic effects and locations as the podcast just used really good describing words that were straight out of the book that was written. they are similar in the way that they had Beowulf killing the dragon in the throat with this fist pulling the heart out with one big rip. and they are different because there were times in the movie where they needed more time and so they added to the plot where the book and the original story had specific details about Beowulf like his hair his physic, his sword he uses to kill the demon and so on. serbousek
The movie Beowulf is pretty much the same as The Road movie. I am comparing this movie to The Road because in that movie the father saved his son from the carnival. In this movie, Beowulf comes to save the king and other people from the monster. At the end of the movie The Road his father dies and in this movie, in the end, the Beowulf dies. The main idea is about is the The movie is Beowulf. In this movie when Hrothgar met the Brave Beowulf he asked how was your father? Did he know before his father? I think Beowulf is a worrier. I think in the movie the monster relates to somebody because I think the Grendel relate to king Hrothgar and obviously the dragon is a son of the brave Beowulf
The story is set in Scandinavia in the 6th century. Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, comes to the aid of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, whose mead hall in Heorot has been under attack by a monster known as Grendel. After Beowulf slays him, Grendel's mother attacks the hall and is then also defeated.
